On the whole, Coldplay are a pretty good band. I know most of their stuff but I've not listened to it all yet.

Used to be a fan, now I believe that they are on par with all the other shallow pop-rock that seems to be making the big bucks these days. While they sound decent, the lyrics are far from profound. I know they have tried to follow in the footsteps of the genius Radiohead, but I think they are missing the point. Completely.

i do think that there's a certain amount of talent there but yeh, i always found them quite dull, theres a few songs that stand out that i realy like by coldplay, but they're a safe band and mostly i just think they're boring

I have to agree that Coldplay is overrated, but I gave their new album (Viva La Vida) a chance and I've been listening to it repeatedly. Really a great album -- fun to listen to, probably one of the best albums of the year, in my opinion.

Anyone else heard it yet?

Coldplay are an odd band for me. Most of their music I don't really like at all, but there are about five songs which are completely epic for me.

Don't Panic is in my top 100 songs.

I'm really quite liking their latest album though. Violet Hills is right up my alley.

I have the biggest bone to pick about Coldplay. Especially after listening to Viva La Vida and reading Chris Martin's interviews about it. They musically peaked so fast with Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head which undoubtedly made the band feel they had to live up to the expectations. When X&Y came out, I was pretty unimpressed. I thought the effort at experimenting with a futuristic sound (if you can call it experimenting) was barely artistic of them. Then Viva La Vida came out, its so obvious they were trying to sound like something they couldn't be. Its all so unorganic the way their musical history is. Getting pushed by major record labels to sell as much as they used to all the while trying evolve musically, its not surprising how it all panned out. I think Parachutes is their best album simply because they had more musical freedom without the stress of needing to top themselves and live up to an expectation.
Basically, They're more popular then they are good - and that is the worst equation.
