First reply, am new to this forum, so here goes:
BJM - Kind off like them, they make good music, especially the albums: Take it from the man and Thank god for mental illness. Notable tracks would include Fucker, Talk-Action=Shit, Vacuum Boots (gotta love 'em ) and Take it from the man and many others. Their music somehow borders on psychedelia with elements from the 70's music scene (hence the name Brian Jonestown -> a pun on Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones). Oh yeah, forgot to mention; their frontman Anton Newcombe was the one who was something of a mentor to Courtney Taylor-Taylor of the Dandy Warhols. The two bands (BJM and the Dandies) formed a friendship but eventually went separate paths...with the Dandy Warhols gaining popularity and BJM remaining underground. This feud is discussed in the documentary (rockumentary ) DIG! BJM broke up with members of the original cast (Hollywood, Hayes and Gion) forming their own bands with certain influence from BJM, Newcombe the only original member left, reorganized the band and continues to make records. I hope people like this, if not comment and we'll discuss it ![]() |

You know, I don't really think it was the underground/pop status that led Courtney and Anton to seperate paths, but more so the factor have douchebaggery, drug use, and envy. In DiG! They loved each other, but were like two positive magnets colliding, setting themselves apart from others.
I love BJM. Their retro psychedelic sound is the closest thing to perfect. Somthing not many people can recreate. In some ways, Anton Newcombe is like the Syd Barrett of our modern time: A mad Genious. |

I agree completely, but it is interesting to see Taylor work his ass off by making a name of himself and the Dandies in the record industry and at the same time see Newcombe work his ass off sabotaging his attempts to make a decent live performance...Its also very hm...how to put it...hypocritical of the Dandies and Taylor making fun of the BJM's heroin abuse when they themselves are on cocaine...Anyways DIG! rules
if not for the bands, its just for Newcombe and Taylor battle it out and then see Taylor giving props to Newcombe, aka the Prophet/Mad Genious. |
