Favourite Hardcore Record Labels

One of the best ways of getting into good bands is finding quality labels who put out stuff of a consistantly high standard, three of mine:

Witching Hour Records- The spiritual home of screamo before the mainstream co-opted the word and turned it into a label for bland girly boys drivelling sub-poetic misogyny for teenage girls. Now sadly defunct, each release (vinyl of course) had distinctive DIY packaging with an amzing hand made feel.

Ebullition Records- Since 1990 Kent Mclard has steered his label on a constant course. No matter what the prevalent trends in the hardcore scene, Ebullition has always cut through sub-genres and put out records by the best sincere political hardcore bands of the day. In the process, they can claim to have released many of the defining hardcore records of the 90?s (and so far the 00?s)

Dischord Records- Of course, first love is the deepest. Started by Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson in 1980 to put out a seven inch by their then defunct band The Teen Idles. It was the success of their next band Minor Threat that helped put the label on the map, as well as the explosion of talent in the DC hardcore scene they documented. Not only this, but Dischord?s heavily hands on DIY ethic helped set the standard for many of the labels who followed.

I didn't really intend it as an article. I just like to back up my points with geek detail.

Solid State

My favorite is Solid State, no doubt. But their are many great bands out there, so I'm up for any
label that has decent music.

Well done! SO you can cut and paste! But what ones do you actually like? carefull when using terms like Post Hardcore. It isn't really very helpfull. For example, GSL, Levelplane, Witching Hour? Posthardcore? My arse. Anyway, the witching hour link is a dud, they haven't had a site forever.

Re: Favourite Hardcore Record Labels

Since this is in the metal section i guess it can cover metal now too?

HydraHead - a bit cliquey but alot of good stuff
Tortuga - the more 'rock' side of Hydrahead
Southern Lord - needs no introduction really
Aurora Borealis - extreme
Profound Lore - avant-garde doom
Super-Fi - very good british label
Holy Roar - the did the Kayo Dot/Bloody Panda Split
Sound Devastation - only the best label in the world

Funny that.
Super Fi is probably the finest label in the UK.
Holy Roar is just unspeakable Gash piled on hype piled on Gash, with rivers of pus just oozing out of it like a diseased fanny.

Re: Favourite Hardcore Record Labels

hahaha... nice one. SuperFi are our good friends, Holy Roar are our arch rivals (but still a decent label IMO despite signing some shite)
