Metal = Evil

Why do you think it has become that most people associate metal with evil. Rap can be just as violent if not worse then some metal, but it still has a worse image. Can this ever be fixed?

"Metal" doesn't want it to be fixed first of all.
I think it will be more accepted in the future, since it will have been around for longer.

Evil is an relative concept. I think Pat Robertson is an evil fucker. Much more so than any metal band.

^ Very good point. Evil is relative. ifyou think aggressive and loud is evil, well then that's what you think.

And a lot of the 'evil' nonsense comes from religious points of view, because some metal acts refer to the occult, satan, demons and etc often.

I am inclined to think pop music is far more 'evil' than metal.

I think Metal reflects our primal inner emotions. It is very testosteronal and I think that is what people dont like. Also it is a very stereotypical view based on a few controversial bands. It's like saying the internet is bad based on porn or extremist sites without considering the educational benefits, how it brings people together and the freedom of speech.

Let's be real, certain political/family/religious groups have a fuckin' moral panic over anything and everything.

I can agree that some metal isn't what I'd think is appropriate for younger kids but I am quick to say the same about hip hop. I think hip hop is worse because it is really pushing through to the commercial mainstream market like never before & atleast with metal I would say 95% of listeners can distinguish from the fanciful lyrics put forth, whether it be about death/destruction/the occult whatever, we all know the various themes of metal.

But with hip hop it isn't always so straight forward, I mean rappers write lyrics about graphical violence that has probably occurred and objectify women and let's be honest some of their personal views on things like terrorism/politics etc easily rub off on those to young & naive to know better.

I don't know about y'all but I don't think I want kids being educated about foreign policy or motivation's of terrorists by a rapper. . .

Don't get me wrong, I am a huge hip hop fan, I have hundreds of albums and have been into for a long time, but I am also smart enough to know it is music, it's entertainment.

Well I think that people have metal engraved in their minds as evil because of people like Ozzy...and all the crazy things you here about metal like a teenage boy commits sucide because of a song...I think metal is more out in the enviromnet than anyother genera....I personally think that metal isnt that bad but there are some things I refuse to listen to because I'm a christian and what I heard about them...but everything has a fault

but Metal has ALREADY been excepted and it has gone through the stages of evolving. The wars of metal are over its peiceful and it stepped back and let another genre step forward and take the spotlight. I believe that EVERY genre has gotten different titles for respected reasons. Each takes its turn in the spotlight and people judge it, maybe metal got that name because of performers biting heads off birds (or chickens or whatever it was), maybe the way they dressed, maybe the way there shows were...

Most of the people labeling something don't know too much about it. We're fast with comments like: "this is crap", "this is evil" and so on ... Few people actualy know music to be able to have an educated opinion

I think the only thing I can really say in response to all this is the simple fact that as long as there are people out there who believe they are 100 % right in the terming of metal as evil, we will always have that issue. I choose to ignore these people and just focus on the fact that the guys and girls that make the music are doing it because it is what they love. They put their hearts and souls into the songs and they put them out their for us. I believe we should just be thankful for the fact that they do that and not make a moral issue out of whether its "evil" or not. I don't know about any of you, but I can listen to a CD and just enjoy it. I may not like some of the personal feelings of the band itself, but I can still respect the fact that they are out there living the dream and doing it in their own way. I could frankly give a damn what the christian coalition, or any other group for that matter, says in regards to metal being evil. They have enough moral issues in their own spectrum to deal with. As they say, don't try to build me a house untill all 4 of your walls are firmly held up. Thanks

Re: Metal = Evil

if we are talking about death metal first of all it is meant to be an underground genre rejected by mainstream culture
that's part of what makes it so great
why would you want it to become mainstream really?
with metal, it's about the music, not the money

Re: Metal = Evil

Why would you wanna change it. Surely its the point. Parents don t get it, and teenagers like having something for themselves that encapsulates all the dark and confusing things going on with them.

Interesting thing now is, those first generation metallers are now parents so hopefully their teenagers will get into some really evil shit. Maybe white noise with the Norwegian nuns being sacrificed screaming all over the top of it.

Its getting late, I ve only just joined this forum. Maybe I should introduce myself. I m Stu
