ramones a musical
No, I'm not kidding. A new musical called Gabba Gabba Hey! will make its London debut on July 31. As a native New Yorker and Queens boy, I'm a little annoyed that a Ramones musical isn't premiering in Forest Hills next to Knish Nosh, but what can you do?
The show features 18 Ramones songs and is said to have an "edge" and "attitude" while being "sweet and lyrical". You cannot pay a PR guy to get a more accurate description of the Ramones themselves. Gotta problem with this? Blame Tommy Ramone; he allowed this to happen. Full Story Well sounds like another good thing gone bad. |

see why can't people just consider what I have always been telling them, the Ramones are sellouts. They were commercialized right from the first song, and it's no good anymore come'on a musical, ha!

It is the trend at the moment, to convert rock back catalogs into musicals. I saw the Madness musical on TV a few years back, Queen have one, the Who, Elton John.... Now if someone brings out GG Allen the Musical, that I'd go see.

You can't call the Ramones sellouts. Most of them are dead!
Anyway, its not that off topic. Southpark is a musical. In fact I'm sure it was 2nd greatest musical of all time in a recent poll or something like that... |

Only the drummers Marky and Tommy are still alive so you can't blame the ones that everyone's heard about. Even the human League in 'The Things that dreams are Made of', sings "Johnny, Joey, Dee Dee, good times".
The whole concept stinks though, musicals are OK if the songs are built for the story, but crowbarring in a bunch of two-chord, two-minute rockers-on-speed songs to a story is definitely the wrong way around. |
