Chavs
Do you get chavs out there in the US?
If you dont know what chavs are, they take up a large portion of kids these days over here. They are rough, wear hoodies and fake brand named cloths, hang out on street corners and drink cheap alchopops and cider. They listen to RnB music and talk 'black'. It is a bonus to a chav to have an ASBO (Anti-Social Behaviour Order) gained through mugging an old lady or threatening someone or some such act.

Ah, I think I can see where the word was derived.
I seem to recall chav as being the word for a gypsy child but for some reason has migrated from being that to what it is today. It seems that more and more kids of today are becoming like this. I do not know why. They have no respect for anything, the environment, the elderly actually anyone really, animals, etc. They are I suppose what the punks were in the 80s but at least punks had an interest in something and weren't just 'fitting in'. They really annoy me and it seems, they are our future.

the term Chav is aweful. it's used by upper and middle class people to degrade the poor. England has such a class problem already, hating the lower classes just doesn't help. People need to stop using terms like Chav and Wigger because it eventually becomes a label slapped on everyone who dresses in the same manner, and some of those people are fine people.
instead of calling them Chavs, describe the person you need to talk about, say that they are crude, uncultured, or ignorant. Whatever, just don't use labels to degrade people.

Ok, I'll use hoodie instead. But that's the point they do seem all alike and how can you describe a person that wears a hood over their face?

Didn't know this forum had PC police.
They are wiggers (chavs is a new term to me so idk shit about that one), because it is a perfectly desciptive title and let me explain why: 1. They adopt black culture and claim it as their own. Don't get this confused with simply liking a black culture (I myself am a huge fan of Jazz and Hip Hop for example. Eminem isn't a wigger because he performs black music for another example (although the use of black slang bring him close to that label)). 2. They have or imitate anti-social behavouir to imitate gangsta rappers they listen to. They come from middle-upper class families which aren't actually poor or struggling like so many other people actually are. If they don't come from a rich family then they are probably 'hustling' for no reason, their mum or dad probably work two jobs to keep them off the streets but they wanna be little thugs. 3. They use slang which is mostly associated with black culture. Although I find the slang stupid regardless of who uses it, most of the slang has black roots. (Refer to point one about adopting a black culture). =========== I know what you mean by upper class yuppie types creating terms to degrade the poorer classes, trust me I know that all too well (not to say I'm poor, but I've dealt with yuppies). But wiggers are 99% of the time those middle - upper class white kids pretending they are from the hood struggling or something, which they are not, they go to private school and have a trust fun with as many numbers as a social secuirty number. I'm white and one thing I despise is wiggers, because a lot of white people (like myself) just like hip hop or jazz or something that has close black roots without doing any of the aforementioned things but get thrown into the same class as wiggers who act like they have a intellect/moral deficiency. And hip hop has a lot to answer for really, it des impose this type of shit on impressionable minds, then again, a lot of hip hop isn't suited for kids anyway (below 15) and after your 15 or 16 you're responsible for your own actions in my opinion... ~compl3x

First off, wiggers and Chavs are not the same thing. The US doesn't and will never have "chavs" as you don't have such an obsession with class.
Chav's, to some extent is a problem that has been with us in the UK for a long time. Of course the English media only just caught on to labelling them "Chavs" (although the word has been common in Scotland since I can remember). We prefer the term Ned or Schemie (schemie= a person from a housing scheme, Scots equivalent of a project or an Estate). Second, Chav's don't all "talk black". In fact, in parts of London and the south of England, that patois is the dominant street slang of the Youth. That?s as much a product of growing up in poor mixed race working class areas as anything else. Chav?s in Liverpool sound Scouse. Glasgow Ned?s all talk the Weegie Banter. In a lot of ways, the English media now use the term ?chav? more to describe someone from a working class background with Poor taste (poor taste according to the ?establishement?). There are celebrity chavs. The other term mentioned ?hoodie? has become synonymous with the gangs of young teenagers hanging about street corners. Now there is more trouble than you would believe with these kids in Scotland, Glasgow in particular (now the murder capital of the Europe). A friend of mine got hospitalised twenty yards from his front door after getting a hiding off about 7 neds wielding a ?for sale? sign. So yes, there are some real fuckers out there. BUT. They aren?t all bad. A lot of them are just bored kids with nothing to do and nowhere to go. Been there. Done that. Wore the hoodie then, still wear the hoodie now. They?ve even gone so far as to float ludicrous toss like banning hoodies. If anyone thinks banning an item of clothing will improve the fucked up condition of our young people in any way, they?re a fool. |
