Religion?

This topic always stirs shit up, so we might get some good conversations goin here, but keep it civil, if you don't it will probably reflect poorly on your opinion/intelligence.

Anyway I don't follow any organized religions and to me the whole idea is just absurd and the teachings are even more absurd.

We can see right now in the world how we can't all live in a peacful manner when we are all taught our certain belief is the correct one and it should be spread (usually by any means necessary) to everyone in the world. Christians, Muslims, Jews and the rest (besides maybe buddists) have a long history of fighting and dying to force their beliefs down other peoples throats and today we see the same thing happening. (i.e. 9/11, Bali bombings, London attacks)

Extremists forcing their shit-for-brains ideas onto a society that doesn't want a bar of it.

But anyway, enough from me, I am sure I will have to post mor later.

And the rest is a bit of a sweeping generalisation.
I don't think its coincidence that you highlight the three big Abrahamic faiths. Funny how so much blood shed can come from three faiths all descended from a common root.

I used to think of myself as a strict-atheist. This is changing now. I reject the concept of a god as a human like entity. I also reject the concept of "a creator".

However, to assume we know anything when all we know of this reality is simply the interpretation of electrical impulses is naive.

I'm reading a lot these days, from Buddhist and Hindu texts to philosphers and authors. I don't know what I belive, but I know there's more to learn and I'll probably think about it for the rest of my life.

I was brought up jewish but I never really believed any of that stuff. Once I turned 18 I refused going to temple for the holidays. Me and my cousin are strong believers that there is no god and no after life. I completely respect others beliefs though.

I was raised Roman Catholic, and was forced to goto church and still pretty much am since I'm living at home. But I avoid it like the plague so I rarely go. I don't believe in a creator or an after life either.

But to be honest I have no idea what I believe in.

I was brought up with no particular religion, I was christened and went to a school where they read the bible out in assembly and said the lords prayer but I never went to church. I am very much a nature lover and lean more towards new age wiccan/pagan religions but dont take anything too seriously.

I see in the paper today that the Pope has abolished "limbo" (until now, it was Catholic belief that unbabtised children went to limbo not heaven). This is one of the reasons organised religion seems so silly to me. If you can just change the bits you don't agree with anymore why belive in any of it? God certainly didn;t phone the Pope and say,

"Awright Pope Man, guess what! All those millions and billions of deid babys that have been hangin aboot limbo since the begining of humanity? Well I've decided to let them in!"

Exactly! How absurd is it to just change the religion around when the story no longer makes sense or when the people of that time begin to reject those parts of a faith?

Lots of people reject(ed) the notion that if a baby dies that hasn't been baptized yet it will go to limbo, but at the same time if god controls your fate that means god was responsible for you dying before you were baptized. So how is it logical you still got to limbo anyway?

And today I got some shit from those damn Jehovah's witnesses talking about "false religions" and this other shit. It even had a quote on it that went something like this:

"If everyone practiced what the Jehovah's witnesses practiced and preached there would have been no holocaust (you know where the Nazi's killed all the Jews) and there would be no genocide.

Do they really care who they offend to spread their bullshit? "Hey a whole bunch of innocent people wouldn't have been killed in the most gruesome ways imaginable if you all just believed what we do"

And the best bit is majority of Xty. reject Jehovah's witnesses as a cult and dislike them because of their rejection of the trinity doctrine.

To be honest, if I had to choose a faith (let's say I had to choose for some unknown reason) I would rather be a Muslim than a Christian; and a Buddist above all.

I hate Christianity, not necessarily the individual persons that practice it, just the religion . Sorry
