Should the United States defend outer space by itself?

President Bush has signed a new National Space Policy that enables the United States to deny access to space to anyone hostile to U.S. interests. Previously, outer space was viewed as an international zone. Is it right for the United States to assert its hegemony there, even in self-defense?...

I stole this topic from H.S.W. but I think it is a good topic for discussion. Post your thoughts.

Uhh well I think the russians planned to attack outer space, and you know blow up that crater over there.

So this is America pushing there weight around with foreign policies again... This time the foreign being outer space... First Mr. President you tell me what Outer Space is, who first "discovered outer space".

This is just another reason to get BUSH out of office, Americans elect someone who has BRAINS and won't waste your money because you know that this means you are going to be dishing out more money to a new program that keeps watch to make sure no one attacks space, or comes close to threatning this poor open land.

Another reason Politics are seen as a joke, and again its AMericas fault!

This cant be enforceable, maybe the US will try and prevent anyone doing anything dodgy in space, but they certainly dont 'own' space!
