Re: Instrumental Rock?

a lot of instrumental rock guitarists have amazing skills, but it really makes it sound boring if the guitarist isn't creative enuff. e.g. Buckethead, he really is one hell of a guitarist but he simply can't compose better than "average" music...even if so effing fast...the only good instr. rock songs ive hear are from Liquid Tenson... and G3

Re: Instrumental Rock?

Explosions in the Sky and Broken Social Scene are my two favorite instrumentals.

Re: Instrumental Rock?

Don Caballero and Mogwai are pretty cool too. The former is considered math-rock, but it's still pretty cool...

Re: Instrumental Rock?

ehhh... for broken social scene you really have to go to their later FANTASTIC stuff to get away from their bland beginnings. Really developed when they distanced themselves from that K.C. Accidental sound.

Vai has nothing on Yngwie Malmsteen, and if you're looking for something a little more hard-core there's buckethead who's become more popular recently thanks to a stint in guitar hero.

He's after Instrumental Rock, not post-rock/indie...

I have Surfing and The Extremist from Satriani and Passion & Warfare. I suspect these four would be the main ones that most people have. I also have Mind's Eye from Vinnie Moore and maybe a couple of others that I can't remember.

They're all OK but I play them mainly for background music when I'm doing something else that I maybe want to concentrate on a bit.

Re: Instrumental Rock?

I have to admit that I need to listen to more Satriani, but normally I'm not the biggest fan of purely instrumental music unless it's classical-based. Steve Vai - Passion and Warefare is a great album though.. been listening to that one for a long time.
