Opeth

Progressive death metal. I have a hard time getting into a lot of their stuff. It's not because of the death metal vocals, really - at least, it's not that I don't tolerate the style. I like plenty of bands who use death growls (Norther, Kalmah, In Flames, etc), but there's something about Akerfeldt's voice that I don't like. Still, I enjoy their Blackwater Park album, especially the song "Bleak" because Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree sang on it.

Standout Tracks: Bleak, In My Time of Need (clean vocals, kinda boring though)

I love Opeth. Their music is so addictive, it's crazy. I bought Blackwater Park, Ghost Reveries, Morningrise, My Arms Your Hearse, and Deliverance all in the span of two days. And Akerfeldt has to be my favorite vocalist, he has the most evil sounding growls, but such a beautifully haunting singing voice.

Standout Tracks: Bleak, Reverie/Harlequin Forest

Yeah, I've been a huge fan of this band for a very long time. I just love their style. Really, there hasn't been a release by them I've been disappointed with, I even liked Damnation (It's actually my third favourite album by them).

Though I will admit, I CAN get bored of them after awhile. Some songs do tend to drag on for a bit too long. But, the range of vocals, the excellent guitars and drums keep brining me back.

I don't really like Damnation. I listen to Opeth when I'm in the mood for some, "RAAAAAAGH!!!" Yeah... so Damnation is too calm for me.

In My Time of Need is a beautiful song, however. Good for when you're in a relaxed mood.

I think that's what I like about it. It's calm, but still has that Opeth feel to it. I'm hoping for a sequel sometime soon.

I don't think that'll happen, since it was meant to be mixed in with Deliverance.

I went into town hoping to get Damnation, I've heard Hope Leaves and it's a brilliant song, and I've wanted to hear more Opeth for a while now. It's been discontinued -everywhere-, though. Amazon for me, I guess.

I love that people are just now getting into Opeth and obsessing over them. I'm not being elitist, I actually think that's great. I've loved Opeth for the longest time.

"To Bid You Farewell" and "Blackwater Park" will, to me, forever hold place as Opeth's greatest works. As for albums, My Arms, Your Hearse and Morningrise take the cake. The newest album isn't all too bad ("Harlequin Forest" is fantastic) but I really didn't like Deliverance and Damnation.

Like I said, great band. Still, I think Mikael's best work was with Katatonia on Brave Murder Day. Talk about an album that'll ruin your happy day.

It's not surprising. Bands like this are being pushed into the mainstream, so those that would never hear of them before or only now just getting into them. I don't hold it against them, really. Since not everyone goes out and looks for that type of music.

It's kinda like technical death metal. It's been around for years, but it's now only coming into the mainstream and replacing metalcore and the like. Though, it's really, really shitty with barely anything technical about it...

Behemoth/Mindgrinder ftw.

But, yeah, Opeth is awesome. I don't have a problem with new fans, or the fact that they are being better marketed. The more people we can convert to Opeth from Slipkorn/Metalcore, the better.
