Re: The Smiths
I've got a couple of "singles" compilations, and most of the tracks are just great.
Aside from the ones mentioned above, "How soon is now", "The boy with the thorn in his side", "Ask" and of course "Girlfriend in a coma". ![]()

Re: The Smiths
I'm a really big fan. I'm kinda growing out of Morrissey now...I guess too much money and fame is bound to affect your inspiration. But they 've been one of my top bands since my school days. And you can see exactly why they stood out in the 1980s. "Strangeways Here We Come" and "The Smiths" are my 2 fav albums.

Re: The Smiths
Agreed. This should definitely be in the Indie thread. The Smiths are the predecessors of Indie. A lot of bands from the last 20 years owe a lot of their sound and inspiration to The Smiths.
Anyone who is a The Smiths/Morrisey/Colin Meloy/The Decemberists fan should get Colin Meloy Sings Morrisey. Meloy covers six songs and puts a little acoustic-folk spin on them.

Re: The Smiths
One of my all time favourite bands.
The Queen Is Dead is most definitely their finest album, closely followed by their first album The Smiths. My favourite track by them is How Soon Is Now. Saw them live in Manchester in 85, they were god-like on stage, a night I will never forget. |

Re: The Smiths
It's too bad that neither Morrissey or Marr's projects after The Smiths have come close to equally what they were able to do during just those few years that The Smiths were together. They're both really talented, but that chemistry just isn't their in their solo work.
I had a really hard time trying to listen to Boomslang all the way through, and a lot of Morrissey's solo work sounds overly melodramatic. |
