Re: how about Animal collective

yaaay AC, my favourite indie-noise-folk-pop band of all time

Seriously though.. one of my favourite bands. not because of their catchy tracks but the whole package... everything from the electronic noise-folk of "Spirit they've gone.." to the happy twee-pop of Grass.

Vocal wise they're pretty unique too.. apart from an acoustic guitar in the background, Sung Tongs is pretty much all vocals... cant wait for a new album, People is some of their best work to date.

recommended tracks:
Chocolate Girl
Leaf house
Did you see the words
Banshee Beat
People

Re: how about Animal collective

Im not really into Iron & Wine.. find it a little boring.

Along the Lines of AC id recommend Akron/Family, Spires That In The Sunset Rise and The Books

Re: how about Animal collective

I'm an avid fan of both Animal Collective and Iron & Wine and hear no direct similarity between the two.
I just got into AC in April and absolutely fell in love, then downloaded Feels, Sung Tongs, Strawberry Jam (naturally), and Water Curses EP. First time I was that excited about a new band since I discovered Death Cab for Cutie in '02.

They have the perfect balance of having catchy beats and hooks to the layout of their lyrics all the while experimenting with the cookiest, craziest sounds. I would say they are the most new-listener friendly of any band in the the Freak-Folk or New Weird America movement.
To put it in layman's terms -
Animal Collective is to Freak-Folk music as Kanye West is to mainstream hip-hop. In my opinion anyways

Recommendations: Panda Bear (A.C. band member), Battles, and The Atlas Sound

Re: how about Animal collective

I'm bringing this post back to the top. I really wanna chat with some more Animal Collective fans. Or if you haven't listened to any of their music, please do!

For new listeners, I'll give you some more accessible songs to listen to online that are among the most popular.

Leaf House, Water Curses, For Reverend Green and Peacebone. Listen to any of those four and tell me your thoughts!
