Re: local artists
I live in Warwickshire (well, for half the year) which is in the West Midlands...and the West Midlands -- or more precisely, Aston, Birmingham -- is the origin point of Ozzy Osbourne.

Re: local artists
Lol! Originally from Hull, and all we've really had from that are Kingmaker, whose bassist was a twat - and Scarlet, who were a Top 20 one-hit wonder involving a few girls from my year at school who sang in a strong Yorkshire accent.
![]() And Roland Gift from Fine Young Cannibals had some kind of connection, though not sure if from Hull, or just lived there.

Re: local artists
In my town (Atlanta), we tend to follow the little bands through their career. My pals The Heart Attacks (look em up on Myspace, I can't make links yet) have eventually made something of themselves and have been signed to Hellcat Records for almost 2 years which is really good. Makes the mama bird feel proud to watch em fly!

Re: local artists
There's only one singer from my town who made a bit of a name for himself, Matthew Jay, a singer/songwriter fella just a couple of years younger than myself.
He got signed on the back of a home demo, one so good the company thought he was a band, then a while after releasing his debut 'fell' out of a window. T'was a shame, it was a rather nice album. |

Re: local artists
Manchester has produced countless quality bands of all genres.
The Bee Gees, 10cc, Joy Division/New Order, The Smiths, Oasis, Happy Mondays, M People, 808 State, The Inspiral Carpets, Simply Red, The Buzzcocks, The Stone Roses etc, etc. Mick Hucknall is from the town in Manchester I was born in and the town I live in now was the birthplace of Davy Jones (the Monkees) and Pete Shelley (Buzzcocks). Just about every town has a famous music artist. Music in Manchester plays a large part in peoples lives and the scene here is always developing. |

Re: local artists
Quote:
Barry Gibb; “In Man there had been no war, but Manchester was bombed and it was strange walking through this ruined city and not knowing exactly why and how this had happened!” It was in Manchester where the brothers discovered their love for music and made their first musical instruments, guitars made from wooden boxes and electric wire for strings. Post war inner cities like Manchester were tough places to grow up in. The story goes that the brothers went to the neighbourhood cinema, where during the intervals the local kids used to play records and lip-sync. The lads took along a record of their own which got broke on the way, so they sang the song in harmony, without the record. The next day their pictures were in the paper! From there they formed a band called the Rattlesnakes and developed their harmonies singing in their bedroom and on street corners... the rest is history. So you see. They may have been born in the Isle of Man and they did move to Australia, but Manchester was their real home, it was where they were truly “born.” "The Bee Gees were born here. I have so many fond memories of harmonising in my bedroom with my brothers. It would be a tragedy not to be able to go back for the memories." - Barry Gibb on buying 51 Keppel Road, Chorlton, Manchester. *does this constitute a pass? ![]() Last edited by Artee : 04-13-2007 at 12:50 PM. |

Re: local artists
Those anecdotes mean little. You cannot claim a band comes from a city if the members weren't born there, and the band wasn't born there. The band went through many names in Australia before they became The Bee Gees. Not for me anyway.
