Surf/Space/Desert Rock

Lately I am finding myself getting into the genres known as surf rock, space rock, and desert rock...
Examples:
Surf Rock: The Mummies
Space Rock: Man or Astroman? (also kinda surfy I guess)
Desert Rock: Queens of the Stone Age/Desert Sessions

I know there is more to them, so what would you suggest?

Re: Surf/Space/Desert Rock

I dunno about "space rock" as such, but I love the Desert Sessions/Kyuss etc

If you like QOTSA and you haven't allready heard Kyuss get on it straight away, Blues for the red sun, the circus leaves town and sky valley are all classics. Smiliar stuff: Fu Manchu, Karma to Burn, Mondogenerator....

Surf Rock wise, get some Dick Dale (he of Pulp Fiction theme tune fame). Estrus records had a lot of good surf rock at one point, and if it's still going, Rob Zombie did a label called ZOmbie-au-go-go records, that was mainly horror themed surf bands.

Everyone tells me I would love Kyuss, but their albums run high lately so I'll have to wait on that...I'm sure I'd like Mondo Generator since I think Nick is a really talented musician. I was listening to Dick Dale on the radio the other day since my guy's friend was djing for a rockabilly segment. Sounded pretty neat.

As in price? Weird. £5 for each of them new over here in Fopp. Mondogenerator are fun, but they're way behind Kyuss in overall genius level.

I love the Ventures! Definitely one of my favorite instrumental artists.
I will have to do more research on Kyuss then, maybe I was mistaken when I was doing all my Desert Sessions ebay hunting (some Kyuss stuff would show up and it ran high so it was intimidating!)
Thanks

Thanks...I suppose it's time for me to do some ebaying again! I haven't checked in a while so the prices may have gone down a little.

Re: Surf/Space/Desert Rock

Don't buy music from Ebay when you can get it in the bargain bin at any good record store Roxymoron. Surely Kyuss isn't totally out of print? The Ventures, I'd give you, but Kyuss, when they've come on so strong since with QOTSA? That just seems like madness.

Maybe you should check out rare and second hand online retailers, they're often a very good source for such things.

Something like this.
