How do you find your music?

Do you go by what others recommend, or do you have your own way of finding music you want to listen to?

Re: How do you find your music?

Like minded people recommendations are usually pretty good, and LastFM has introduced me to one or two artists. Most often though it'll come from an association with another artist, Arcade Fire -> Wolf Parade or Soundgarden -> Temple Of The Dog, or just simply reading a review, ignoring the writers own thoughts and just sticking to the facts, instruments and moods rather than sounds like .... and such stuff. Checking out label mates is another good way to find music too.

Re: How do you find your music?

I mainly find out about music from my friends (and get quite a lot too). I find it good that way, because we have known each other for ages, the longest being life.

Re: How do you find your music?

Is there anyone that you know that has the same tastes as you, that you trust to recommend new music to you?

Re: How do you find your music?

my boyfriend/fellow SDer has very similar taste to me in terms of doom.. within my group of friends, i know at least one of them will like any bands i find, and i trust them all with recommendations. Its strange.. i know about 6 people for example who loved Mahumodo (for those that don't know, a pretty obscure band that split after a few EPs), whereas in High School, people didnt know who Tool were.

i usually find bands through bands. i spend most of the day talking to bands and they very often name-drop examples or say theyre playing with whoever, or we just get talking about gigs and bands.. i get talking to people at gigs now, and people come up to us.

Re: How do you find your music?

There's a shop I always go to, since they usually stock interesting stuff and I know the manager.
Also I go by recommendations from my friends, and often what my favorite artists listen to.

Re: How do you find your music?

Mine mostly comes from my friends. We all seem to like the same types of music and usually they are right on if they recommend something.

Re: How do you find your music?

My husband introduces me to a lot of new stuff, he's on about a dozen different music lists and forums. We have a bunch of friends who recommend stuff. When I like something I research connections with other music. (i.e. other band member projects, influences, etc) Thank gods for download sites because if something catches my interest it's no problem to download some stuff and see how it flies.

I kind of like listening to the same old stuff over and over again, what can I say?

Re: How do you find your music?

There will always be certain favorites but there's just so much music flowing around this house that it's easy to get caught up in the adventure. My daughter is teaching me so much about grabbing life with both hands and seeking new experiences. It's hard not to be excited about what the world has to offer, in music and art as well as in playgrounds, when you're seeing the excitement in a child's face at the start of each new day.

Re: How do you find your music?

Mainly I go by what my friends recommend. I get some off of the Radio and some from what my son recommends.
