Re: Illegal Downloading of music.
I don't make a point of downloading music - I want a quality sound and I'm guaranteed that with a purchase.
Even still, I came across a link to a free download of Marylin Manson's "Eat Me Drink Me" - had a listen - thought it sounded good so bought it. ![]()

Re: Illegal Downloading of music.
This is my no downloading of music. No downloading of Aussie bands music because they have a smaller fan base. So if I want an album by an Aussie I buy it

Re: Illegal Downloading of music.
like illegal downloading will eventully destroy the music industry..
like the people on easter island decided one day to build these enormus idols.. but to do this they had to destroy thetrees which they needed for selter and food.. they all died afterwards.. an i bet they thought that the idols were a good idea |

Re: Illegal Downloading of music.
fuck it, if they want me to buy more records, they'll just have to start taking reasonable prices for CD's. I do already buy, A LOT, of records (started buying more about a year ago, before that i only downloaded).
but if it's an indie band or a band i know have a smaller fan base, i try to buy their albums instead. But i mean, i'm 16, turning 17, years old, i'm not made out of money! and about the quality: you don't HAVE to download records in mp3-format. You can download an album in .flac, aiff, .wav and so on. i do it all the time! Of course most often i do download mp3, that's because my amplifier and my speakers suck anyway so having better quality in the file it self doesn't make any difference since it's still gonna sound pretty bad. As soon as I start earning a little more money i'll buy some good hi-fi shit.

Re: Illegal Downloading of music.
Majority of the revenue from CDs don't go directly to the artists anyhow.
I have, and still occassionally do, download music. Who buys cds nowadays anyway? Independent artists are now releasing their albums via download (which I DO pay for). I think that's brilliant. CD players have been replaced by mp3 players. CDs will, if not already have, become obsolete. I'd say a great deal of people do their shopping online, therefore downloading albums is the most convenient thing. I think file sharing is a GREAT MARKETING TOOL. It's the perfect way to really get your music out there. It's a great way to build a fanbase that is WILLING TO PAY to go see you play live!

Re: Illegal Downloading of music.
I like to 'try before I buy' and therefore download music illegally. If I like what I'm listening to then I'll buy the CD. I guess this saves me money if I know the album is not good on a whole.

Re: Illegal Downloading of music.
Plus the music industry has been spoiled. They can just release pure crap, and expect to make millions on it. All the money is in the publishing rights, and the musician often has to sign that away for the deal. I download, but then I also go see the bands I listen to when they're in town.

Re: Illegal Downloading of music.
Personally, since all so many record stores are closing it has been making it harder and harder to find music you want easily. Not everyone has an ipod or a computer even so where do people find music? I always buy music because I believe in supporting artists the best i can but i am always afraid once i buy the music from itunes then either my ipod or computer is going to crash and there goes all my music. I want something tangible.

Re: Illegal Downloading of music.
I download music all the time, and movies while we are on the subject, I like to listen and see if I actually like the band before I go and spend some money on something I dont like. I have downloaded many songs and never listed again after realising how terrible they are, but I have downloaded songs and went out and bought more than one album from the same artist, yes, some people do abuse downloading, I do too, but I think the bands should chill if they expect us to buy the music from the one song we hear on the radio

Re: Illegal Downloading of music.
In Canada it isn't illegal to download music. Any Music. Regardless I will always download music. Don't get swept up by the Music Industry and worry about $$$ being lost. It's not about revenue, it's all about control.
