Re: As Cities Burn.

I afraid that simply posting a bands name and then saying AMAZING is why this forum is struggling to move out of neutral. Who? Why are they amazing? What do they sound like? Where are they from?

Re: As Cities Burn.

I think they're from california, they sound like UnderOATH, I don't know they're amazing.

Back to the band, I like Son, I Loved You At Your Darkest a bit, it was better then most stuff in that genre however since their screamer left I can't stand it at all.

Ok. Well I don't think that's up to much to be honest. Pretty standard rehash of better artists.

Yeah they're christian, they aren't as nazi about it though. I remember meeting the Chariot's vocalist and he told my gay friend he was going to hell. Awesome dude.

Re: As Cities Burn.

dude what does the bands religion have anything to do with the music they produce????
as cities burn is one of the most talented bands out there. they started with their more hardcore/post-hardcore sound, but now that their vocalist left, the lead guitarist does all the vocals.
listen to the unique guitar lines, weaving in and out of harmony
see if you can appreciate a band for the music and not their spiritual beliefs.

Re: As Cities Burn.

Because alot of these christian metalcore bands are complete jerks about their religion, like Josh from the Chariot which is a major turn off.

Re: As Cities Burn.

i understand, i am a christian, i went to church today, but i dont want to be a jerk to you at all. it is not our job to judge. i know i screw up constantly. judging is Gods job. it is our job to love people. that is Jesus's message, regardless of what other christians have told you.

but also, i have heard bands who hate christians and make fun of them on stage. is this any better??

as cities burn, i guarantee you will not condemn you at all. listen to the song "the hoard" and read the lyrics. its talking about how many christians are stuck up and think they dont need the grace God has given them. but the truth is all humans are in the same boat. we have all sinned, and we need his mercy. oh and i dont mean to preach at all, sorry if i came across that way.

Re: As Cities Burn.

I agree with Figure8, he never said ALL christians are jerks about it just that many christians are, and i have the same experience really, even if i think we non-christians have a lot to learn of christians.

Whatever their fucking beliefs are i think christian-hardcore is complete bull, just like i think Black-metal and white-metal is bullshit. I agree music is not about religion it's about music (goes without saying, of course) so why even name a genre after what the people whos playing it beliefs are? That's absurd! You're just shutting people out, if i were to be a muslim, i can't play something with the same sound as "christian hardcore" without being excluded from the "christian-hardcore-bands", it's pathetic. The name of the genre itself is controverting the christian morale that's telling you not to judge:P

Also word. But I never thought the discussion were the genre "christian hardcore" itself, more like hardcore performed by christian people. But whatever.

well c'mon man. As Cities Burn IS classified as a christian hardcore band so it's inedible not to debate them as a christian hardcore band when you start talking bout their religion and how it affects their music and so on...

Re: As Cities Burn.

Christian hardcore and metalcore is a very acceptable wave recently in music, you have several labels dedicated to it (Tooth & Nail, Facedown, Solid State, etc.) and ALOT of bands lately, in fact the amount of christian bands seems almost trendy now. UnderOATH, Norma Jean, the Chariot, August Burns Red, Blessed By A Broken Heart, Haste the Day, Zao, the Devil Wears Prada, and those were just off the top of my head. It seems like the whole faux-emo scene, not just metalcore is full of christian bands in general. Even the pop stuff has quite a few, Anberlin, Emery, Paramore, The Almost you get the idea.

eh, yeah, i know there are a lot of them, that's really not the point. the point is i don't think a genre should be called after what the musicians beliefs are, what the fuck does that has to do with anything? It's about music, and i think by calling it "christian hardcore" you're restricting the genre! allowing only christians in the genre makes it impossible for someone with another religious belief to play the music, why not call it hardcore since the only difference is the lyrics?

Besides i think the word "hardcore" has been used VERY wrong the last couple of years. What happened to REAL hardcore like Black Flag and bad brains, are they from the same genre as Refused and blindside? i don't get it.
