Camden Lock

So I had to go to London this week - I actually missed the presentation I was supposed to go to, because they gave the wrong time on the website!

Anyway, I'd already decided to spend the afternoon doing some shopping around Camden - Camden Market, Camden Lock, and all the great shops around there.

It's an absolutely amazing place - just lines of shops selling goth/metal/ethnic clothing and gear, and there's nowhere else like it in the UK.

Got some shopping done when - unknown to me I should have been at the presentation - and then went back the next day to grab a couple more things.

I ended up spending a few hundred quid, and even had to buy a sports holdall to carry all the stuff on for the plane - exactly what happened the last time I was there two years ago.

Anyway, anyone else here ever been to Camden in London, and been amazed at the shopping to be had?

Re: Camden Lock

Ive been... id heard alot about it and was interested to see what the fuss was about. found that the markets sold mostly the same stuff over and over again, most of which i could buy in Norwich, or alot cheaper online. i think i came back with a scarf... having spent a rediculous £6.something on a sandwich and coffee for lunch.

My trip to Sister Ray in soho was far more productive.

Re: Camden Lock

Yeah, I do like Camden, but yes, a lot of the markets have the exact same stock. Always make a visit when I'm down. I really like soho/Carnaby street is awesome too, some authentic mod gear to be picked up in that area.

Re: Camden Lock

Okay, sounds like I need to find out more about Soho/Sister Ray/Carnaby Street.

Re: Camden Lock

Selectadisk is another really good music store in Soho, just opposite Sister Ray.

Re: Camden Lock

Selectadisc is what i was looking for.. hoping to find a slightly bigger collection than the one in Notts (hard to beat tbh, but possible).

But its merged with Sister Ray.. had only just happened i think as the stickers were all mixed up and they had two different avant-garde sections. some good stuff though.

Clothing wise, Afflek's palace in manchester is very similar to Camden markets if you're ever up there..

i tend to buy my stuff from charity shops around nottingham though.. or primark, i cant afford to really spend more than £10 on any item of clothing. My favourite place to buy accessories (apart from piercing stuff which i get online) is a little retro shop called Daphne's Handbags.. endless 70-90s style jewellery, shoes, belts..
