Re: Aussie Rock

Augie March is pretty good though a little soft for my liking with most of the songs. Some I quite like though.

Re: Aussie Rock

Some Australian bands/Musicians I think are good: Expatriate, The Cops, Red Riders, The Beautiful Girls, Gyroscope, Angus and Julia Stone, Augie March, Gotye, Powderfinger, Silverchair, Jedediah, Dappled Cities Fly, Eskimo Joe, Wolfmother, Jet, John Butler Trio, Josh Pyke, The Panics, The Seabellies, Something With Numbers, Young and Restless, Starky, Youth Group, Grinspoon.

They don't all come under Rock, but are all still good. I'm sure there are many more that i havnt mentioned. Australian music right now is really strong in my opinion.

Re: Aussie Rock

shihad (formerly known as pacifier, formerly known as shihad), are from new zealand, not australia.

avoiding genres, we have a ton of exports. they're just scattered. kylie minogue is huge. the wiggles, for cripes!
the scare are popular in the indie scene england, aren't they? they're from brisbane.
i killed the prom queen, custard, the avalanches, parkway drive, tism, blood duster, daysend, the grates, keith urban, gerling.

and i'm not sure how far barnesy made it on the international stage, but cold chisel are from aus, too.

Shihad are based in Australia and were signed by an Aussie record label.

The Wiggles are awesomeness. They have been around as long as I have, I grew up with them. They still win Arias (Australian music awards) after 16 years.

No one here cares about Kylie much. She left us for England.

Apart from Urban not many of those bands are well known in Aussieland. I have heard of almost all of them but don't like many. Tism are good.

i thought that was the point though, musicians who are known (therefore practically "making it", to a certain extent) overseas. i would dare to say that more people overseas know about dead can dance (for example), than most australians.

Re: Aussie Rock

Powderfinger are getting bigger over here slowly but surely.. I saw Silverchair in London sometime in 2006.. never seen them back home before (Aussie living in uk for the past 6 years)

I do wish alot of Australian bands would break through over here. I think Something for Kate would do well.. given a British / American audience.

I introduced my friends over here to TISM .. Instant fans.

Good Australian Bands in my opinion: the screaming jets, grinspoon, frenzal rhomb, powderfinger, something for kate, the butterfly effect (support the hometown bands!) Sunk Loto etc etc..

and cannot forget the good old INXS

Re: Aussie Rock

TISM!! How awesome.

Hey hey what do TISM, KISS and Slipknot all have in common?

They all cover their faces with various things.

Something for Kate are pretty awesome and I agree with you, could do very well.

BIRDS OF TOKYO!!!

Re: Aussie Rock

TISM are wierd, all that black masked Slipknot thing and yet they play light indie-pop stuff. Can't get my head round that one!

Re: Aussie Rock

Yeah TISM are weird but doesn't stop them being good.

I think its time for Wolfmother to come out with another album. Their first one had awesome album art. Was a good album too.
