Aussie Rock
There are some good Aussie bands out there at the minute, Wolfmother, Eskimo Joe, Jet, Shihad (I like them but no one else does) and so on. I was just wondering how many are actually making it overseas. I know Wolfmother is making it big in America but that it all I know.

Re: Aussie Rock
Jet are sort of popular in the UK, but only cause so many Australians are over here back packing. I have to say, taking its size and sporting prowess into account, Australia has a pretty rough ttrack record for producing good bands. The only total classic being AC/DC, and lets face it most of em were born in Scotland......

Re: Aussie Rock
Yeah well what do you expect from a country with only a population the same as London (I don't know that for sure). Everyone lives so far away from each other. I am quite liking Jet at the minute, new album is awesome. How about John Butler Trio? Are they doing anything overseas, I love them at the minute as well.

Yeah I basically agree I'm an Aussie and the only Aussie band I like is AC/DC...And yeah they are mostly Scottish lol. But Australia sometimes has a tendency to claim people from different countries as Aussies. |

Re: Aussie Rock
Jet's first album they had written hardly any of their own music, although they did it well.
Kisschasey you guys probably haven't heard of but I am bringing them up anyway. They play emoish kinda music.

Re: Aussie Rock
I'll bet it isn't (or your have a suck ass collection of music, eitherway...)
Mogwai Belle and Sebastian Jesus and The Marychain Idlewild Sensational Alex Harvey Band Primal Scream The Proclaimers Beta Band Arab Strap Delgados Vaselines Boards of Canada Average White Band Skids Fish The Shamen Big Country Travis The View Milo Aereogramme Snow Patrol (based in Edinburgh for years before they took off) oh. and of course all the pop bands like wet wet wet and deacon blue.... Now that's just "bigger" names and not taking into account Scots who've done well in other bands like Shirley Manson in Garbage or David Byrne from Talking Heads. Or Gavin Rossdale from Bush who's originaly from Scotland. For a country with a smaller population than greater London, we punch well above our weight. |

Re: Aussie Rock
Haha...I don't have any of those and I will admit, I have a couple of embarrassing cds in my collection, but who doesn't.
I have heard some good things about a few of those, so if I get suggested enough I will look into them. |

Re: Aussie Rock
Try the bass player in Red Hot Chili Peppers. He is an Aussie. I have heard of very few of the bands on that list. And then the ones I have heard of I have only heard of them, never their stuff.
Powderfinger...not sure how big they are but their Aussie...Same with Silverchair...

Re: Aussie Rock
Yeah Flea lived in Australia before his family moved when he was about 12. He lived in Victoria to be correct.
