Kid Friendly Emo

I have an almost 3 year old who loves music of all kinds. She seems to really enjoy the punk and emo stuff that she's heard, but now that she's reaching the point where she picks up on the lyrics and sings along, I'm trying to find some more kid friendly stuff.

Well, all of that stuff is not bad, so why not let her listen to it? Or are you meaning more like Sesame Street stuff?

Re: Kid Friendly Emo

Dear gods, no! She gets enough Sesame Street on PBS. When we're listening to music, I'd like to expose her to as much different stuff as possible. The problem is, there's something disturbing about a beautiful 3 year old singing some lyrics. Her grandmother has issues with profanity. And it's bad enough that her mama is an ineffectively medicated depressive, I don't think that she should be exposed to too much suicidal music/lyrics.

But, that's just me... If you can think of anything that a 3 year old should hear, I'm willing to give it a listen. I just don't like spoon feeding her bad music. (Have you listened to much of what's marketed as children's music? I thought Lisa Loeb was insipid before I had kids...)

Dying Fetus, Rapeman, Cannibal Corpse, Jobby Crust, selfish cunt, man is the bastard, those are all great kid friendly bands.

Jesus H Christ. Its got so bad our scene is being co-opted by the local kindergarten.

Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Paramore, Kids in Glass Houses last album, Also the ipod playlist is our friend (can even manage to get some 'suitable' Mindless Self Indulgence songs ) - and I get why you want to delay the swearing for a little while.

My daughter was singing along to the Sex Pistols when she was 5 - She's 12 now - I have of course now given up on the censorship

You've got an interesting time in front of you!
