Re: Sid Vicious or Kurt Cobain
i dont think that its true to say that without the sex pistols there would be no nirvana but i think u can compare them, cobain compared himself to sid vicious, Both bands had a quite a big influence over the music industry and over society, no matter where their tallents lie, although i think cobain as more calcuating in this and self driven where as sid vicious was along for the ride, and for both it was the personnality that had as much impact. ok with sid vicious he didnt neccesarily contribute to music, the sex pistols and so on but perhaps draw attention to it all, if that makes sense. i'd say that cobain made the greatest contribution to music, i dont think he'd be forgotten that easily

Re: Sid Vicious or Kurt Cobain
All and all without the mass advertising and marketing which ultimately got both bands out to the mainstream they wouldn't have had the opportunity to make as large an impact as they did. If you can look at both bands and somehow see them without all the fame and glory it's plain to see that Cobain was an artist. Sid was a performer. Cobain contributed to music. Sid contributed to entertainment. They both lived difficult lifestyles and couldn't handle it, they both will be remembered for their impact on peoples lives through music whether they were good at entertaining or contributing to music itself. RIP to the both of em.

Re: Sid Vicious or Kurt Cobain
I personally don't think Johnny had as much talent, or even the impact Kurt did. Yeah they were the biggest band in punk.. but that doesn't mean they revolutionized music or changed a generation. Everyone listened to Nirvana at one point. Not everyone listened to the Sex Pistols. Go ask your parents if they recognize the band names... chances are they'll remember Nirvana over the Pistols.

Re: Sid Vicious or Kurt Cobain
kurt, easiest question ever, sid was like the least important person in the sex pistols, imo. dont get me wrong, i love the sex pistols, but i think kurt was brilliant and ive always thought of sid of a bit of a joke

Re: Sid Vicious or Kurt Cobain
I really like both bands - but - Sid was an idiot!
I could understand the question if he was charismatic in any way but since he was obviously overshadowed by Johnny Rotten in this department as well I just don't get it.

Re: Sid Vicious or Kurt Cobain
I can fully say Kurt. This is how i see it, Sid made it ok to be a fucking dick ass drunk playing a guitar as good as they can, but yet still come up with complete shit music (My opinion). Kurt was more like, I play what i want to play, it sounds alright, and my feelings are some what important. And its ok if people are better than me, cause actually...i know i suck.
