Snow Patrol
I bought eyes open for my girlfriend but I'm actually really impressed with it so far.
It's got an interesting sort of U2 meets shoegaze style that I find really appealing. Anyone else agree, or am I just getting old? ![]()

Re: Snow Patrol
No you're right. I don't own it myself, but I thought more along the lines of an Australian group named Youth Group meets Lifehouse and JET (another Australian band but you might know them). I was surprised to find they had earlier albums and almost bought one. I am hoping to get Eyes Open for my birthday.
I also found that Chasing Cars received a lot of airplay, but not to the point of too much. In fact funny story. I was lying on my floor, turned on my radio and the first thing I hear is, "If I lay here, and just lay here." I guess that's only funny if you know the song. But yes, I rather like them. Rather? I'm not English. They're fair dinkum mate. |

Re: Snow Patrol
PROCLAIMERS!! One of the best Scottish bands ever, and now Snow Patrol. Come to think of it, they aren't that different from the Proclaimers or any other Scottish band I can think of at the moment...Franz Ferdinand, ...that's all I got for now.

Re: Snow Patrol
You actually hit the nail right on the head with the shoegaze comparrison. Snow patrol played all the local pubs around edinburgh for years before they made it big, some of my friends were big fans.
Although in the early days they clearly worshipped at the feet of all things MBV.... Personaly I liked them better then. I find it far to bland now for my liking. Don;t see the Jet comparison at all. There are LOADS of Scottish bands. Some of the most important in recent years being being Arab Strap, Mogwai, Belle and Sebastian and Primal Scream and as I mentioned else where, three of the original AC/DC lineup were born in Scotland..........;-) |

Re: Snow Patrol
Mate, Scotland can never claim AC/DC. They are the legends of Australian rock, along with Midnight Oil, the Easybeats, Cold Chisel and Crowded House. Who, I would like to say, played their first live show in a decade today, with a new drummer. They have reformed, and are playing at LiveEarth in Australia.

Re: Snow Patrol
Bought her the one before Eyes Wide Open for her birthday. The Amazon reviews paint it as darker and moodier, but if it has their general level of creativty so far, it can't be bad. I hope.

Re: Snow Patrol
You know what the problem with snow patrol is....... everyone likes them, no one LOVES them and they are not very interesting. kinda the problem with all of the big indie bands in the UK right now, they are good but they are not world domination good.

Re: Snow Patrol
i hate snow patrol's music.
neil and tim finn are kiwis, and they're pretty much crowded house to me. there is absolutely no comparison to jet, even though i hate them both. jet are the worst thing to come out of australia in years and make it big. it makes me feel dirty when people ask me if i know them because i'm from australia. i don't really see the comparison to lifehouse either. they sound completely different to me. |
