Re: Decent indie bands?
I hate it when people use the word "indie" as a genre, the word comes from independent label, and so it doesn't really xplain what the band is like. Neutral Milk Hotel - folk rock / radiohead - electronica rock / modest mouse - pop rock
all of these are under the genre "indie" does anyone see this my way??? |

Re: Decent indie bands?
So much so I started a thread about it.
The distinction between the 2 has been blurred so much by major labels to push product, the financial affiliation no longer stands which is unprecedented. |

Re: Decent indie bands?
Personally I still see an Indie band as a band that is affiliated to an Independent label not a musical style. Indie used to be exciting as you'd find bands like The Fall, Danielle Dax, Echo and The Bunnymen, The Stone Roses, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Kylie Minogue(!) and The Cure all under the same umbrella. Now you just need skinny jeans and a specific haircut to be called Indie.
There's a band that played a gig in the now defunct Fopp on Tottenham Court Road in London last year called ByeByeKuRt (byebyekurt.co.uk and myspace/byebyekurt). Just found that there's some footage from that gig and an interview on You tube - just search byebyekurt. To me they're quite 80's influenced but have a varied sound. They move from a poppy sound to an edgier rock vibe. I think the mix of influences and backgrounds help. At the Fopp gig they played with a female fronted rock band called Shush (myspace/shushsound) who are also worth checking out. |

Re: Decent indie bands?
Check out this band called The Black Summer Crush. They're pretty good. Reminds me of Wolfmother with a touch of Jimi Hendrix. I'm going to check out there show tonight. So if you're in Huntington Beach, come to Fitzgerald Pub. I'll be there and we can have some drinks and enjoy some great music! They play at 10, soo come out! if not. go to their site.. myspace.com/theblacksummercrush

Re: Decent indie bands?
I love this band. All my friends that live in England seem to hate them though.
My latest favorite Indie band is Tokyo Police Club.
