One of the first major artists I ever got into - his creativity and variety of experssion with music was pretty invogorating for a while. The albums "Purple Rain" to "Lovesexy" seem to have been his best run. Then there was Batman and Graffiti Bridge - and then it all went a bit weird. Namely the symbol business. I heard a little of Diamond and Pearls and it seems like there were some decent tracks on it, but just haven't heard anything of him since.
So...does anyone know what Prince is doing nowadays music-wise? Is he still releasing, and what's the quality like? and has he gone back to his name "Prince" or is he still symbol-thingy?

Re: What's Prince doing now?
I believe he has gone back to the name "Prince". He was also recently inducted(is that the right word?) in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I've also heard he is on a world tour. I'm not sure if he has a new CD out or anything.

Re: What's Prince doing now?
Prince is indeed on tour (he did a show in Bakersfield, about an hour and a half south of here, a week or two ago) and is again calling himself by name instead of symbol. He's also actually doing some talk show appearances, something he has never done before to my knowledge. He also performed at the most recent Grammay awards show, opening up the show, and was very well received.
If you have a chance to see Prince perform live, by all means take advantage of the opportunity. He really is an amazing musician. I saw him in San Francisco a few years ago, in a fairly small venue (small enough that although my seat was near the back of the theatre, I could see the stage and recognize individuals and everything ), and it was a great show.

Re: What's Prince doing now?
Well...I used to really like the Purple Rain and Lovesexy albums. Now they do little for myself. Sign of the Times is the one redeeming part of the collection - I really appreciate that now.
But...it has to be said that Prince seems to repetively sing about one thing: "I've got a hard on." It's getting a little nauseating, actually. Funny how things can sound so different after a decade.

Re: What's Prince doing now?
Actually, it seems that Prince has gotten religion and is now trying to distance himself from some of his more, um, erotic lyrics. I heard somewhere that he has become a Jehovah's Witness or something like that.

Re: What's Prince doing now?
Prince always did flirt heavily with Christianity. He retired for a short while in the 1980's to "look for the ladder" - around 86 I think. But overall, he's spent nearly a quarter of a century singing about his hard on - I would be very surprised if he were to stop anytime soon.
