Re: What Metal Are You Listening To?
Metal is a big chunk of my musical world. Currently in heavy rotation:
Lux Occulta: Mother and the Enemy - extreme metal laced through with the strangest incursions, from jazz to trip-hop Nevermore: Dead Heart in the Dead World - The only 'real' metal band currently operating in the US. And guess what, they're from Seattle. Hah!!! Dark Tranquility: Damage Done - Gothenburg at its best. How does The Wonders At Your Feet compare, bigmac? Sigh: Imaginary Sonicscapes - A Japanese band, formerly straight black metal, now they mix psychedelia, classical and even the odd disco touch into their sound. Brilliant stuff! Bruce Dickinson: Chemical Wedding - The Dickinson and Smith team-up just belts the bollocks out of anything they're doing with Maiden now. |

The Wonders At Your Feet is off the Haven album, which I personally prefer to Damage Done. Both are great albums though.
Imaginary Sonicscapes and Lux Occulta sound really interesting. I am going to have to check them out I think. Have you ever heard of Liquid Tension Experiment? From the sound of things, I think you'd like them a lot. ![]() |

Re: What Metal Are You Listening To?
Yes, you'd think so, but I didn't like LTE too much - I was actually meaning to tell you yesterday, when we were chatting, that for some reason, even though i like music that stretches the boundaries and goes for that epic feel, I don't like modern prog rock very much - somehow the playing is just too textbook for me. I prefer a little slop around the edges. I'm weird that way...
A couple of my friends have Haven - must get it off them. BTW, Imaginary Sonicscapes is the album; the bandname's Sigh. I think some obscure European label or other distributes them in points westward. |

I take it your not a fan of Dream Theater either then. I love their album "Scenes From a Memory", it is one of the best modern prog albums I've heard. I kinda get what you mean about modern prog, it is all a little polished, but there are still some great new prog albums about. Scenes From A Memory and Pink Floyd's Division Bell spring instantly to mind, as does Tool's Lateralus. |

Re: What Metal Are You Listening To?
Oh, Tool gets utter worship from me. I don't even see them in the same category as a Dream Theater - far more leftfield!
One reason I'm a bit off the DT-style prog is that so many people I know swear by it so much, I just have to be a brat and contradict them all. ![]() |

They teamed up for Dickinson's come back solo album, Accident of Birth and the follow-up The Chemical Wedding - both excellent albums. Around this time Maiden must've noticed their alumni were generally outdoing them, and so the reunion. However, Dickinson intends to intersperse more solo material with his Maiden stuff, which is alltothe good. The new Maiden albums aren't bad, but the Dickinson stuff is just leagues ahead, even if the styles are similar. |

Re: What Metal Are You Listening To?
Well I haven't been able to afford new music since after I turned 30
so I'm completely behind the times when it comes to music. Once I win my MP3 or IPod I'll have to check out some of these bands you guys are talking about. So the metal I listen to is all old...Ozzy Osborne, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Judas Priest and the like.

![]() The early Ozzy solo stuff is great too. The two albums with Randy Rhodes, Blizzard of Oz and Diary of a Madman are amongst the greateat metal albums the 1980's produced. Quote:

Re: What Metal Are You Listening To?
Been listening to the first Bodycount album today. The Winner Loses is such an amazing track, and the guitar solo is one of my favorites ever, some beautifully smooth fret-trapping, Ernie C is one of the most underated lead players of all time in my opinion. Other classic tracks off that self-titled album are Bodycount, Momma's Gotta Die Tonight and Voodoo.
