Re: Which 80's Tracks Are You Listening To?

Well, I spin a lot of 80's thrash - Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, Exodus, Slayer, that sort of stuff as well as the earlier 80s British Metal - mostly Maiden and Priest, some other European stuff like Sodom, Accept, Kreator, Carcass. Also into the 80s post-punk stuff, Joy Division, Nick Cave, Echo and The Bunnymen and so forth.

I never was very big on the hair metal thing.

Re: Tainted Tastes

True Faith is a superb track - but most of my original music collection is on vinyl, so I don;t get to listen to it much.

I do have "The Collection" by Ultravox burned to my hard drive - had that on tape, LP, and CD. Hymn, Thin Wall, and The Voice IMO were Ultravox at their height.

I've listened to so much today I cant begin to list it all. The songs that i've had stuck in my head today have been Kraftwerk's Metropolis, Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat, Living In China by Men Without Hats, Cars by Gary Numan and Billy Idol's White Wedding. Oh, and Lovecats by The Cure.

Re: Which 80's Tracks Are You Listening To?

Love 80's music. I think it would be hard to list what I listen to as my week-day at work radio station plays all 80's. Unfortunately they are stuck in a groove and tend to play the same stuff over and over. However, here are some of my faves:

Amadeus, Falco
Putting on The Ritz, Taco
Roseanna, Asia
She Blinded Me with Science, Dolby
Pop Music, M
Wanted Dead or Alive, the only Bon Jovi I like
Always Something There to Remind Me, Naked Eyes? Not sure.
Anything by Madness, Men at Work, Inxs, The Police, Genesis, Huey Lewis and The News...

I'm at home right now, it is six am on a Saturday, hubby's gone to work and the rest of the house is blessedly quiet (even the animals) but I wish I could listen to some of this stuff right now. Where oh where is my Ipod??

I love Amadeus! Great track. I am so jealous of your 80's radio station BTW, even if it is stuck in a loop.

Without any shame at all I am now listening to the "Aha" album "Hunting High and Low" (1985).

I actually think they were a very talented group - excepting for one short dire song, there are actually some impressive pieces on this CD.

Sounds like my 80s. Men at Work and The Police, especially. Although, I have to say that I like Bon Jovi a lot. Billy Idol was also mentioned by a couple of people - always liked him, too; he has such a rich, full voice (esp. listen to "Eyes Without A Face").

But, first and foremost, I must mention U2. They've carried on through the 90s and into the new century, but I first heard them in the 80s, and I think I like their 80s releases, especially "Unforgettable Fire" and "The Joshua Tree", the best of all their work. Yeah, I'm a bit of a fanatic. One of the best shows I've ever been to, as well, was during their Zoo TV tour. It was in November, in Oakland, and I nearly caught pneumonia and was nearly crushed during one of the opening acts (Public Enemy; Sugarcubes was the other opening act - Bjork was a bit strange even then, which is not a criticism but just a statement of fact). But it was a great show.

I'm planning on writing them a letter about their 'loop'. Hopefully they'll integrate some of the other great stuff from the 80's. They leave out so much stuff like the Scorpions and Berlin and they only play certain songs by other artists, for example, the only Cindi Lauper they play is 'She Bop', which I like but she has so many other songs they could play as well. As for the Police, they only play 'Synchronicity' and 'Roxanne' and none of the other great songs like 'Canary in a Coalmine'. Well, I could go on and on, but I'll spare you guys!

You go for it!

Like Zach De La Rocha said in the song, "You gotta take the power back."

Re: Which 80's Tracks Are You Listening To?

I've been tempted for some time to buy the Joshua Tree. I know a couple of U2 tracks but have never actually listened to anything properly.

And cool that you saw the Sugarcubes!! I'm one of those people who remember first hearing Bjork through them - Life's Too Good is still a pretty definitive album, though a lot of their other stuff was disappointing, especially Regina. Quite a strange bunch. Bjork has carved out a very good solo career, though - a bit uncertain seeming at first, but she's recorded some superb music.
