New user inquires about last Interpol album... thoughts? comments?
I want to bring this topic up due to the fact that I found many fans were dissappointed with this album. Understandly, I can see why many would hold to this view. I on the other hand had very little trouble embracing the new record, not to mention that as time went by, I only fell in love more with the album. I think there is a lot of talk of them switching to a major label, which no doubt has affected their sound to a certain degree, and this is perhaps what many die hard fans didn't appreciate.
I wouldn't call myself a die hard fan. Interpol, nevertheless, is probably one of my top 5 fav bands of the last decade. I'd like to hear what some of you have to say about the nature of this album, its strenghts and weaknesses. I'm not here really to argue, but rather to just see what overall people were pleased and displeased with. I think one of the things that this album has is a bit more of an "honest" touch that's found in the lyrics. The clearest example is perhaps, "Rest My Chemistry." I will admit, this song did seem a bit absurd the first few times I listened to it, but it did catch my ear in a strange way after a while that led me to love it. At any rate, enough said. Hope this is something for conversation... I'm a "n00b" here so, this is my first try. |

Have they stopped ripping off Joy Division yet? will pretty much always be my thoughts on them. I'm fairly indifferent towards them, Evil is a good song though.

OK...So Interpol is one of my absolute favorite bands. They cleverly encapsulate raw emotion and political excerpts into their hipster, foot tapping, 'rebel with out a cause' sound. The notion that they mimic, copy or borrow sounds or riffs from Joy Division is absurd. Just like in literature and other mediums (film) it is increasingly hard to remain entirely unique, especially when most pursue careers in these fields based upon influence. All I know is that I love each and every Interpol album and I know no matter how hard I try to mimic each line and riff at home alone (when no one is watching) that they are a talented, lyric driven band.
I'm "All Fired Up" for Our Love to Admire!
