Something New

My New Years resolution this year was to be open-minded and listen to new genres of music and artists that I would not normally listen to. When I got an internship at UMGD, I was so excited because this would be the perfect opportunity to actually achieve my resolution. I went to a meeting about a new artist named Mike Oldfield who is an electronica/ experimental artists from the UK. Usually I listen to more rock type music but I actually really enjoy this artist. I was given his new CD called Music of the Spheres and it is definitely the type of music that I could see myself listening to while relaxing, taking a nice warm bath after a long day at work. I am so glad that I learned about this artist and I can be open-minded to new genres of music to appreciate how amazing his music is. If you would like to check out a few of his songs, you can go to myspace.com/michaeloldfield... there are about 5 different songs posted.

Re: Something New

Sorry - but Mike Oldfield has been recording since the '70s - His (hugely) successful album Tubular Bells would be familiar (by name at least) to practically everyone 'of a certain age' in the British Isles.

If you interested I'd say try this album - certainly chill-out music.

I'm more familiar with Ian Brown's 'Music of The Spheres' - but it takes all kind I suppose!

Re: Something New

I think if you are in the mood to listen to new music and open your eyes to new sounds... I have been listening to Rusty Truck. Soft southern music that is suitable for car rides and concerts. Just wanted to give you something to listen to. Thanks for your thoughts.

Re: Something New

For relaxing music, I'm quite fond of my 'ChillOut Mix 2' CD- electronic lounge style, very laid back. Includes tracks from Massive Attack, St Germain, Thievery Corporation, etc.
