Bass

I play bass as my main instrument altough I am able to play the guitar. I use a Fender Precision Bass and a Fender Bass Amp, it sounds pretty good but I am saving up for a better bass. I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: Bass

It could take me a long time to list all my gear. So I'll just start with my bass gear:

* 1985 Fender Jazz Bass w/ Seymour Duncan pickups & Aguilar OB2 preamp. This one is named "cabernet".

* 1988 Fender Jazz Bass w/ DiMarzio Ultra-Jazz pickups & Aguilar OB2 preamp. This one is named "chocolate stout".

* 1997 Yamaha BBN5 5-string w/Bartolini jazz bass pickups (This one allows me to play all The Cure Fender XII licks and Peter Hook-sounding stuff, without having to be all the way up the neck). This one is named "Irish coffee".

* 1995 Yamaha BBN4F, This is my only fretless. It's useful for songs like "The Lovecats" or anything by Love & Rockets or David J. This one is named "amaretto".

* 1997 Yamaha RBX270, with Seymour Duncan pickups (I added a jazz bass pick in the bridge position) and the Seymour Duncan STC-2 onboard pre-amp. This one is my main gigging bass, because it's got lot's of dents, scrtaches & stickers, but it lightweight and sounds lovely. It's named "velvet hammer".

I have two main rigs:

* Peavey Max 700 Head (this is the same as the Firebass 700 head) with a Peavey Pro Tour 1x15' cabinet

* Peavey Max 160 Head with a Peavey 2x10' cabinet. I kind of got hooked on Peavey after seeing The Cure play through them on tour all through the 1980s. Very solid & good-sounding amps.

On my pedal board I have the following:

*Boss GEB-7 Bass EQ pedal
*Electro Harmonix Clone Theory Chorus/Vibrato pedal (got this one because of Peter Hook)
* Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI. I have the one with the 3 programmable settings. This & the EQ pedal are the two most important pedals I have.
* Ibanez Tube Screamer (modified by a friend in Hollywood, CA)
* Boss RV-5 Digital Reverb
* Boss TU12 Tuner (Very old school, but very accurate with low frequencies)

On the horizon:

This December I may get an an Ampeg SVT head.

Re: Bass

Can't go wrong with a p-bass as your first instrument. My first bass in 1984 was a Fender jazz bass. I still have it. It still plays wonderfully.

Here are two shots of "midnight" which is a customized Fender jazz bass that I just finished putting together. I posted these on the Steve Severin forum, but I thought I'd share them here as well:
