I havent heard any really good indie stuff for a long time now. The new Bloc Party CD is pretty good, but everything on my mind is very mainstream. For a while there was a lot of really good stuff coming out. ended around the last babyshambles album.

Re: Your Top 5 "non-mainstream" bands this year

I think a long time ago I realized I didn't like a lot of the pitchfork music. Anything else. I never could figure out what this one website was that was talking about the arctic monkeys way back when they only had a couple demo songs going around the internet. To add to the thread.

Kings of Leon
they dont seem mainstream at all, even though they should be.

I must agree. Although Tegan and Sara's the Con came out more than a year ago it's still amazing.

kings of leon are playing the big stadiums and the standing tickets sold out almost straight away for sum venues, they're deffinatly more of the alternative scene but deffinatly mainstream...think they're a great band tho

oh jesus, TPC is def going to the mainstream THEY WERE ON TOUR WITH WEEZER.

I was deeply saddened by this, their older songs sounded much different, to me all their latest songs just sound the same as the other ones, reminding me of the Strokes or something.

Re: Your Top 5 "non-mainstream" bands this year

dude, such a bummer that alot of the bands people put on here ended up being the same repeated things/on the mainstream side, but nonetheless alot of the bands posted so far are sick.
mgmt is getting pretty mainstream, to be honest. i heard them playing in forever 21 at the mall the other day! lame. but, if you like mgmt or music like it, check out starfucker.
vampire weekend had it's hot days and i was so scared it was going to go towards mainstream when i saw them on mtv, but overall they're still awesome and i suggest you listen to them while sketching/painting if you do that sort of thing.
BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE... please listen, all their albums are soooo good.

if you dig instrumentals more, then check out explosions in the sky, giraffes? giraffes!, el ten eleven, do make say think, and jacob & i.
