the Shins brokeup

I assume anyone who is reading this wants me to get to the point so I will:
My friend's boyfriend is in a band, and his band manager is good friends with the Shins' band manager (mind you, both bands and I live in the same city and news travels fast of course) who told him the Shins broke up. For reasons undisclosed.
I don't have any hard proof behind the statement other than what I was told. But think about it - they haven't toured all summer, not even a gig for kicks, have been on a long hiatus since they last toured which was a while ago. I posted a comment on their profile asking if the rumors were true, and I did this a few times, not expecting a response because bands of that scale don't reply to comments. But they never posted my comment on their page. I don't think that supports the statement, but I thought it was fishy.
I heard this bit of news in May, and I've been anxiously waiting for the band to release it to the press and solidify it.

That would be a big disappointment. Especially because I liked how their sound was growing... One of few bands who keep it going good well after their debut!

I still have a small hope they didn't. I'm waiting for some form of life from the band, like many fans, and it's been almost 6 months

I hope they had only a temporary break-up in worst case scenario. Just hopefully taking a break, re-aligning their chakras, etc. Regardless thanks for the somber news.

it seems odd that they would leave sub pop for mercer's Aural Apothecary an then break up so soon after.

Ugh... they were one of my favorite bands, and they only had, what? Four albums (if you include Flake Music)? Well, I hope your sources are wrong, it would be pretty terrible if they were broken up.

They are still around and are working on a new album that will be ready in early 2010.
