Re: What Classic Music are you listening too?(include operas)
I'm a great lover of Wagner - sheer drama! I was lucky enough a few years ago to go to a night of Wagner performed by the Scottish National Orchestra and it was awesome.
I'm also a fan of Opera (particularly Puccini) and if anybody ever fancies giving it a try - go to see Madame Butterfly. You will NOT regret it - one of the finest Operas ever written. Another wonderful piece is Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni - used in Godfather Part III. Some great stuff there as well. |

Nothing wrong with that, and the Rings cycle has some rather excellent moments - I really should look to get a good recording on CD.
It must be fascinating looking at music from the position of a singer - all the ranges and sense of style that comes with it. I would always have loved to have performed in some way, but I'm afraid I'm one of those closet back-room composers. One day I shall record some of my music with a live orchestra and choir. ![]()

My friend(the one who liked Wagner) is also a composer, she writes some amazing musics for us...meaning me and two of my other friends and we play with three flutes and one clarinet(that's what she is playing). I am looking forward to see the next Mozart of our time(hey, she is only gr.9), so I can actually claim I knew her personally
(alright that's just a joke, she can never be Mozart in anyway.......)Today we went to the library because our band teacher gave us a warning that on the final we have to play two different style piece....but instead we found tons of orchestra scores. What's more, is every single famous opera's score and words!!! She borrowed the Tale of Haffmann and I think it a good one...If you are an opera fan you should come to Vancouver Centre Library, it's amazing how many things a there. |

Lol Esioul! Yes, my sister played Cherubino! I'm impressed.
I haven't heard of Francesca Celia, but my sister and I are going to see an electronic opera by Eric Whitacre this summer. It's called Paradise Lost. I absolutely love his music. Brian, if you want choral music with feeling, download any Eric Whitacre piece. I recommend "When David Heard," or "Water Night." |

"O mio babbino caro" from Gianni Schicchi written by Giacomo Puccini, performed by Tito Gobbi, Cecilia Fusco and Renzo Casellato with the RAI Orchestra & Chorus, Milan, conducted by Massimo Pradella.
I have just downloaded the Sarah Brightman version and it sounds great. Puccini was such a marvellous composer. Thanks go out once again to the Angrybuddhist for doing all of the spade work. Though I had to search for and download all of the tracks on that list, it was worth it. |
