Great film music
I mentioned on another thread about listening to Star Trek music today in the car - II and I both have absolutely great moments in the score. Conan the Barbarian is also a superb soundtrack. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (2 CD set) is another I play constantly on my PC. Take it away for more suggestions... |

Re:Great film music
Bladerunner is certainly a great album.
I remember when I was working behind the bar of a nightclub a few years ago - one night, about quarter to 9, waiting to open, a group of the staff all sat around having a last cig before getting to work... Then the DJ put on the Bladerunner soundtrack on. Truly it made the atmosphere serene. It was one of those moments when you could see that everyone was affected. All quiet except for the Vangelis music... Something I won't forget. A sort of "group experience". Bought LOTR II soundtrack on my birthday. Not so good, but still worth listening to - maybe we were just spoiled with the first one. I did have it on when the gas men came round earlier this week to remove a couple of olde upstairs gas heaters. After a while I figured I ought to switch music, in case they thought I was some form of Satanist. ;D |

Re:Great film music
My favourite piece of film music has to be in 'The Wolfman'
(Universal 1941) When Lon Chaney Jr. changes into a werewolf, the music has a wonderfully eastern European feel to it....and in a similar vein - Coppola's Dracula with its stunning use of moody cello Best soundtrack ever though has to go to The Last Waltz and its myriad of stars.

Re:Great film music
I love "The Last Waltz". I don't have the CD, but I do own the film. Haven't watched it in awhile - I need to do that.

I can't believe it, but I'm only just properly discovering the Gladiator score, maybe two years after I got the CD.
I have been track 3 innumerable times (it's the attack in the Black Forest music, methinks) - but for some incalcuable reason, I've never actually sat down to listen to it properly until I burned it to my PC hard drive a few days ago. Some very nice stuff there. ![]()

Also add: Track 10 on the Gladiator soundtrack is really hitting me at the moment. Visions of someone in grief - closing themselves off to the world, and a scene of screaming at the sky. Suits one of my characters perfectly for a bit I'm coming up to. I'm going to write to that.
