Who are the great rock bands NOW?
OK, so I'm automatically leaving out metal, post-rock, hip-hop, electronica, jazz and so forth. What I'd like to know is, who do you think are the really vital, innovative and worthwhile rock bands operating now? They don't have to be brand new, but they have to be cooking as of right now, not 5 years back!
Here are my nominations, and I will post in more detail later if need be: Tool Radiohead Yup, just the two. I think these are two bands, of what I've heard, who function at a level far above the rest. Now what else is out there that I've been missing? |

Perfect Circle: These guys just rock, I think I like them better than Tool, actually, I'm not quite decided on that point, but yeah, they're up there in my opinion.
Chilli Peppers Silver Chair Muse Though with those three I think I prefer most of their older stuff, with the exception of Silverchair, I love every album! Must admit I do quite like Jet... sad I know *blushes* I'm such a teeny bop! Urgh, I know I'm missing two big ones, but I can't think of them (I had an exam today its excuseable ) |

Oh yea, Silverchair for sure. The thing with Muse is, Absolution was like a re-run of Origins and that singer seems to have just one vocal melody. RHCP's By The Way was very dissappointing, too, I think.

Yeah I know, Showbiz seems to be their best, and i liked Thoughts of a Dying Atheist (I just love the name
) But they rock live, they had the crowd at the Big Day Out in Sydney going off in a big way. Bigger then the Darkness, Black Eyed Peas, Hudu Gurus, almost at the same level as Metallica there, they were amazing that day. |

Well I don't believe they've really done a weak album the way, say, Megadeth or Slayer have, but dangit - where is the wall of sound? WHERE IS THE WALL OF SOUND????? Huh? And Hetfield's new live voice with all the 'yeah-ahh's - feh. Fie. Foe. Fum.

Yeah, I really didn't like St Anger. My step-brother (oddly a massively "old school" political activist punk -Sid Viscious, Anarchoi, Dead kennedys etc)- likes the actual St Anger song because it "goes back to all their original influences"
But, I found their older stuff to have a lot more complexity, and the contrasting melodies... Loved it! |

Back to their old influences? There are none. It's all nu-metal.
You know what strikes me as funny? Sid Vicious and the Sex Pistols were the ultimate experiment within musical commercialism. They were created for the sole reason of bringing in profit, the kids picked off the street. A backstreet band, if you may. |
