I bet that really woke them up!
One of my finest musical experiences was going to the Festival theatre in Edinburgh for a night of Wagner - so I was really pleased to watch The Ride Of The Valkyries on TV - from the Glastonbury Festival of all places!
It looked awesome and, as a lover of Opera myself, I hope this gets a few more folk interested. It's really sad that, a couple of centuries ago, Opera was as much for the ordinary folk as for the Gentry. Nowadays it's seen as something highbrow and elitist - which is a real shame because there's so much to enjoy: Bedroom Farce, Love, Tragedy, Epic Drama, Murder, Betrayal - it's all there just waiting to be enjoyed. ![]() |

Re: I bet that really woke them up!
Yeah... lots of people my age can just about accept some classical music, but everyone says they hate opera without even listening to it. I only have to turn on the cd player and play then about two notes before they start complaining, but they can't take it when I say their music is crap. It annoys me...
Ooo... reached 1000 posts. I have to stop posting now, I look obsessed or something. Last edited by Esioul : 06-28-2004 at 11:14 PM. Reason: Obsessions and typos. What? |
