1930's music
Most played CD at the moment is "Hits of 1933". Some superb tracks on it! There's something about the England of the first half of the century that seems so appealing and idyllic. And 1920's/1930's America also has a lot of appeal, not least from being introduced to it via Lovecraft. Anyway, back to Close you eyes"...

Nothing wrong with songs of the first half of the 20th century...
Some good jazz, and ragtime, and big band sounds... Whittards (the tea and coffee place) used to sell CD's with music from that era... Got one somewhere, though can't remember what I did with it... |

There's something about the pre-WWII years that has such a strange sense of innocence in them - perhaps because consumerism wasn't such a rampant and inescapable fact of life. Certainly there was unpleasantness, but there's an appealing simplicity, not simply in the lifestyles, but also the words and aspirations - especially the near post-depression lyrics.

If you're looking for music from the thirties then look no further than the Paris Hot Club Quintet with Stephan Grappelli and the inimitable, the wonderful, the Godlike, outrageously talented Django Reinhardt. That man can do more with half a hand than most of us can do with a whole one on the old geetar!
