Dead Can Dance/ Lisa Gerrard
To continue from the Goth thread...
Been listening to a lot of my Dead Can Dance collection. I did have down that "Within the Heart of a Dying Sun" was the most melancholy album - though it has the excellent "Cantana" on it, the last couple - Persephone, for example - are emotionally quite depressing. However, I've just dug out the Lisa Gerrard debut, "The Mirror Pool" - and, my goodness, it's melancholy in music as an art form! Some sample song titles: Violina: the last embrace La Bas: song of the drowned Sanvean: I am your shadow Listening to it and I'm suddenly transported back to my most depressed period of my life (I'd not long bought the album - mood sympathy ).Glorious, though, it's it's somehow timesless exotic gothness - full of soft and gentle pools of sadness, mixed with more powerful streams of melancholy. Darkness and candles - the mirror pool. One for you, JP. ![]()

Ah, I need to ferret this stuff out somehow. Time to re-install soulseek, methinks. Have you ever heard this band called Lycia, btw? Very haunting classical-tinged stuff, I believe the style is called darkwave, the darker side of new wave.

Re: Dead Can Dance/ Lisa Gerrard
Lisa Gerrard is a vocal genius. I did not really get into Dead Can Dance that much, but her solo work is outstandingly amazing. I first got turned on to her because she did a lot of the composition and all the vocals for the movie Gladiator. There is one song particularly that is so incredibly moving: "Now We are Free". It's probably one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard. Her album "A Thousand Roads" is one i can listen to straight through over and over. She is an experience.

Re: Dead Can Dance/ Lisa Gerrard
Hi everybody, I'm new on here, randomly browsing around the different topics... Thought I'd make my first post here, although the thread seems to have been quite inactive... Nevertheless... DCD are old favourites to me, used to listen to them a lot when I was studying at art schools. Lisa Gerrard is amazing, and her newest solo album, The Silver Tree, is one of the darkest, most beautiful albums I've ever heard... It's almost too much sometimes... "Space Weaver" on that album, fascinates me, as it really, really conveys the feeling of "no hope whatsoever"... :P
