Your First CD

What was your first CD that you bought?

Now, I was a bit late in getting my first CD player (in fact, most of my friends were already gathering a collection of CDs before I finally moved on from tapes), so my first cd is not really all that old of a release.

My first CD was Mellow Gold by Beck. I still swear by that album. It is near perfect.

Heh, not at all. My first full length vinyl (not including the countless 45s) was the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper and the Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Re: Your First CD

Got you beat, McMurphy. My first vinyl (aside from kiddie records) was "Meet the Beatles". I was in the second grade. Got on the rock'n'roll bandwagon quite young, I suppose.

As far as my first CD, I think it was a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers CD. I had just gotten my first CD player, and it was the only CD I liked that was on sale in the store at the time. I wanted something to actually play on the player, but the player itself cost most of the money I had to spend at the time.

Re: Your First CD

Great CD to start with, Lee!

My first ever CD was Nine Inch Nails' The Downward Spiral, followed quickly by Sonic Youth's Dirty and Iron Maiden's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. Never owned my own vinyl but my mum has Sgt Pepper's on vinyl. I have it on CD.

Re: Your First CD

My first was Passion and Warfare - Steve Vai. I was pretty reluctant towrds CD's since at that point there was a huge price difference between tapes & CD's, but when I saw this baby with all the gorgeous artwork in that thick liner, I knew I had to have it. Oh, and the music is spectacular as well

Re: Your First CD

I didn't really have a first as I was late into it like some others...we decided to get a whole bunch at once from one of those buy 12 get one free type deals. I do remember some of the picks though...

Ozzy Osborne Blizzard of Oz
Journey's Greatest Hits
Jimmy Buffet's Songs You Know by Heart
Fleetwood Mac
and of course quite a few others but those were the ones I remembered thinking, 'I've got to have that'.

As far as vinyl goes, I never had too many after the kiddie records because my Disney record player broke and we were broke so had to make do with cassettes. But I had quite a few good kiddie ones and later inherited some others, two of note was Disney's Robin Hood - still remember the songs! and the inherited one I liked the most was a Cheech and Chong album that I had to hide from the folks. I still remember most of the bits and can clearly remember what the jacket looked like, it was made to look like a brown paper wrapped package with twine coming from somewhere south of the border with stains and whatnot all over it. Great stuff for a 12 year old!

Re: Your First CD

Firsty CD was Permanent, the Joy Division anthology, and first thing I ever bought was "The Real Thing" by Midnight Oil. I don't really buy music, though. I have shadowy ways

My first CD was The Gypsy Kings

My first ever piece of vinyl was a single called Deborah by a little known band called Tyrannosaurus Rex

Deborah looked like a Zebora by the way

Re: Your First CD

The first cd I ever bought was 'Meat Is Murder' by The Smiths. It certainly wasn't the first album I ever owned or purchased though. But when I first got a CD player in the mid 80's that was what I rushed out to get first.

Re: Your First CD

Natty Dread by Bob Marley, Beast Inside by Inspiral Carpets, and Wild Wood by Paul Weller. The first vinyls that I bought were The Final Countdown by Europe, Blue Hotel by Chris Isaak, and Take My Breath Away by Berlin.

Re: Your First CD

First CD was an extended edition of a Sisters of Mercy release - something from Vision Thing. Only, I didn't have a CD player, and the CD was all dressed up in what looked like a 12" vinyl cover, so I had to take it back.
