I was wondering what everyones favorite type of metal is. I think i have to give the nod to black metal over death metal. but jsut by a hair though.

I am very ignorant when it comes to genres and such, which category would industrial fall under? I have been a fan of Korn and White Zombie since way back when they started. Also been a fan of Manson since Cake and Sodomy.

and some Uncategorised stuff (Hawkwind e.t.c)

You can keep yer NU-metal though, I find it uninspiring.

I have favourites in nearly every metal subgenre, except black metal, which tends to bore me with its portentuous affectations, and nu-metal, which doesn't really appeal to me coz the pants are too big.

Nu and black metal are not as commonly liked as the rest i find. all my friends like heavy and pwoer metal. Whereas I enjoy black, death and some nu metal.
There are just some bands that drive me up the wall.

I started listening to some thrash metal the other day. not bad stuff.

these guys are supposed to be one of hte greatest death metal bands. They are my favortie band. I'd suggest listening to sometihng from ecilpsing the dawn. their best ablum so far.

I like some of the old school death metal - Obituary, Cannibal Corpse and Deicide and am usually open to new death metal bands, even if it not my primary choice. Cryptopsy is a terrific band, very heavy and very tight, give them a try. I lke some of the 'melodeath'; stuff too, like DArk Tranquility and Soilwork.

I'm not a big fan of power metal somehow - all the heroic themes and NWOBHM-lifted idioms tend to put me off. I like New Wave on its own, but not the endless re-iteration of its forms.

Cryptopsy is amazing. They played a show in a city not far from here and my cousin was there. He said it was the greatest show of all time. I was very upset because I had tickets for it and I couldn't geta drive there! UGH!

But on halloween Neuaxis and Misery Index are playing. There are supposed to be a few other bands there, but I don't know the names. I can't wait for it.

If you like Cryptopsy you should like Cephalectomy.

Nightwing: Iron Maiden was part of what people called the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, in the early 80s. GOes to show that labels like 'new wave' 'modern' and so on are bad becuase they date so fast!!! And yea, I love Dickinson's solo stuff too - better than the re-grouped Iron Maiden, actually.


aftermath, I believe I shall try and check out Cephalectomy, since we've established a Cryptosy reference point. Lots of my friends are very deeply into death metal, I suppose one of them would have a copy.

Yeah, Maiden have finished as far as I'm concerned, however their old stuff lives on!

Categories can be argued until the cows come home, I mean where do you put Captain Beefheart? in the end it doesn't matter.

I would say that the stuff I like mainly involves tight pants like Robert Plant's ( I love Led Zeppelin too)

Add the likes of Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Dio & Judas Priest to that and you get the picture...
