Depeche Mode
Aren't they just the best? I only really started listening to them this year, after having it recommended it to me for so long. (Big fan of keyboards and synthesisers.) I think they're one of the best things to ever come out of the 80s.
My personal favourites are: Policy of Truth, Enjoy the Silence and World in My Eyes. Any other fans here? |

Re: Depeche Mode
Me!
I really like everything I've heard of them, but it's more the later stuff - SOngs of Faith and Devotion, Ultra, Violator. Sterling stuff. I've also seen a concert dvd, and they seem to have a cool stage act, especially vocalist Dave Gahan (although some of his dance moves were a bit - erm - ambiguous?). Not at all familiar with their 80s work though, aside from the odd single such as Personal Jesus. Is there anyone who can bring me up to speed on what to look out for? I like their smooth, synth-led sound, the sinewy rock foundation, and the feel of it - very atmospheric, often melancholy in a most engaging way. |

Re: Depeche Mode
Violater is one of my most played CDs. Black Celebration is pretty good as well. I tend to be pretty disappointed with the later releases I have - Songs of Faith and Devotion, Ultra, and I think another - but they are sometimes tired sounding, and don't have many great moments on them. I personally see Violater as their peak. (shrugs)

Re: Depeche Mode
Some of my favorite Depeche Mode songs are: Blaphemous Rumours, It's Called a Heart, Love in itself, Master and Servant, and Shake the Disease.

Re: Depeche Mode
Excellent, I'm glad to hear so many people love them too, but I suppose it's no great shocker. They are masters of their genre. Apparantly they have released an album containing remixes of their stuff. I heard the remix of 'Enjoy the Silence.' Disappointing. They felt the need to add heavy guitars to it, some might love it, but I think if it ain't broke, why fix it?

Re: Depeche Mode
Speaking of remixes - when I used to be into buying 12" singles, Depeche Mode often seemed to have remixes on their 12" releases. I never actually bought one, though, for some reason (probably too attached to the original tunes, and disliking change and all that).
Curious - is the album release those original released remixes, or entirely new ones?
