Good Ol' Celtic Tunes

I found that since I left home, which happened to be Cape Breton, where celtic music is a big thing (EX:natilie macmaster, ashley macisaac, buddy macmaster, the rankins and many other,) that i have started listening to my fiddle cd's a lot over my metal.

Does anyone else near enjoy the good ol' fiddle and have to listened to any famous Cape Bretoners! :>

I miss home ... (plays Mull River Shuffle-The Rankins )

Lets have a celidh!!! mwhaha. yes, i spelled that right. it gaelic. try and say it

Re: Good Ol' Celtic Tunes

I've never really found anything that sounded like real Celtic music - lots of New Age stuff, and some general folk music - but I've been longing to really dig into this territory.

Would you like to make any specific recommendations of groups published on CD we can order from Amazon, that to yourself encompass "Celtic Music" as you know it, Aftermath? Would certainly be appreciated.

Re: Good Ol' Celtic Tunes

no problem

well, you have my cousins the rankin family. they have some really good ones. then ashely macisaac, in my opinion, the greatest fiddler alive. buddy macmaster is just as good. natalie macmaster, another cousin. umm.. ther'res a lot. All i know is the local guys that are known about the world. mind you, these are cape breton tunes. this is what i grew up on, and was told to be celtic music. but there are some many people from where i live that have cd's. i don't know if they are widely know though

there's a site about players from home.

another from home.

if your looking for more, go to google and search mabou fiddle music. you'll get a whole lot of links.

And if ever come to cape breton, go to mabou on the weekends or port hood. you'll find ur fiddle music then mate! no better place on earth!

Thanks for that - will check it out. May just by a CD for my girlfriend for Christmas, in case the music is any good.

Ahhhh, I love Celtic tunes! I really do. I havn't heard of those names though, actually, I don't really know of any specific artists... But I know the music, and have been trying to track down a decent CD for ages.
Shall definately look up these artists!

Re: Good Ol' Celtic Tunes

In all honesty, if you love the fiddle, ashley macisaac is your best bet. He's just so good at it. The only reason he's not as famous as natalie is that when he's off the island (cap breton island) he's a idiot on stage. And you never heard of the Rankin Family??!!

Mull River Shuffle is one of there songs. It's really good. and everything mentioned in the song is true. hogamagh is a real place to. its really call whycocomagh but every calls it hogamagh. i think you'll like them. you should really go to a pig'n'whistle or a celidh. you'd have a blast
