Metallica
Okay, I don't want to bog down the discussions in the music forum with polls, but I really think this one will be an interesting one.
Everyone seems to have an opinion on Metallica, whether it be rave or rant. What are your feelings about the band, and, by answering the poll, which is your favorite album? [EDIT: The selection "Garbage, Inc" should read "Garage, Inc"....honest mistake....I swear.] |

Re: Metallica
I understand that Metallica is the album that purists see as the one that ruined everything, or that was their "sell-out" album. However, it's the first Metallica album I ever bought, and I really wasn't that aware of them prior to that - with the notable exception of the song "One", which is classic.
So, anyway, I had to vote for Metallica.

Re: Metallica
Seek and Destroy is great to dance to, and One is simply a great piece of music. I did fairly enjoy the Metallica album, but I never got strongly into them. Never realised that they had released so much since then! Oh, my!

Re: Metallica
Definitely Master of Puppets. Although I like the first 4 albums pretty evenly. The Loads were ok, but what on earth is St. Anger? Sounds like a buch of tired, cobbled-together riffs with no real sense of songwriting, or for that matter inspiration, left. Give me Exodus anyday - no identity crises, no tiring re-vamps, just good, clean violent Bay Area thrash from the word go right up until the new one, Tempo of the Damned.

Re: Metallica
I'm certain you're talking about the Black Album aka Untitled/Self Titled. It had some great tracks: Of Wolf and Man, Through The Never, The God That Failed...and the singles, of course.

Re: Metallica
Yeah, I'm a big fan of Black. Damn, I didn't realise S&M was up there either...
Metallica is hard for me to pick a fav album, I'm a big fan of compiling a mix of all their CDs. For me there is several that stand out, but not really one single ultimate metallica album... |

Re: Metallica
Somehow I find it very hard to accept Metallica doing anything but Old School Thrash. i'm usually more forgiving of mutations by my favourite bands, but damnit, they just lost the intensity!!! I seriously dislike S&M too - the original versions sounded huge and orchestrated enough, thank you, without the tinkly orchestral bits. Really lowered my respect for Kamen. Now, Therion, there's a band does the orch/metal thing well!

Re: Metallica
Personally, I am more of a fan of earlier Metallica (Master of Puppets, Kill Em All, And Justice for All, ect). Its just so much heavier than the stuff that is coming out today. I thought the Black album was great, but it was just so different from what they had previously done. I was waiting and waiting for St. Anger to come out, and was greatly disappointed. I just sounded like a live album that was promoted as a studio album. The sound just sounded horrible, and the lyrics left a lot to be desired. From articles I read, St. Anger was the first album where he brought in other lyrical ideas from the other band mates....JAMES, DON'T DO THAT AGAIN!
I can understand how a band would want to re-invent itself, but when a band like Metallica does it you really wonder why. If it isn't broke, don't fix it. I just want to next studio album for Metallica to go back to its roots, and take Metal/Hard Rock back to where it was back it was back in the 80's. |
