Re: Bob Dylan Nominated for the Nobel Prize
I will look into her petry but if it is political than I am sure to return with a bad review. Poetry should be about flowers and pretty girls....

Re: Bob Dylan Nominated for the Nobel Prize
I read an article on her recently. Apparently her stories are quite graphic in both sex and violence. She's a reclusive character who is well known in Austria but only sold about 50 copies in the UK.
I believe 'The Piano Teacher' received some critical acclaim but I've never read any of her stuff.

Noble Moments of Dylan
It sounds like many of us wouldn't mind seeing Dylan snatch a Nobel Prize in literature. What album would you suggest a new listener of Dylan's work to first buy?
My recommendation would go to his album entitled Bringing It All Back Home. The song "It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)" feels like an anthem to me. As a bonus, I would also recommend an interesting tribute album that came out a couple years back called Duluth Does Dylan. It is compiled by current folk and rock musicians from the Duluth, Minnesota area (Dylan's hometown). The album is a bit hard to find due to being released on the minor label, "Spinout," but the creative cover of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" by Crazy Betty is reason enough to search it out. It is nice to hear a version completely different from the Guns 'n' Roses' stab at it. ![]() |

Re: Bob Dylan Nominated for the Nobel Prize
My personal favourite is Desire or for something a little different - the soundtrack to Pat Garret & Billy The Kid. But in truth, I would recommend any of his albums apart from Saved (the sole wart on a perfect skin)

I revisited this thread, by the way, because I picked up a copy of the Dylan album Oh Mercy. "Politcal World" and "Man in the Long Black Coat" are a few of the highlights. "We live in a political world, Where peace is not welcome at all, It's turned away from the door to wander some more, Or put up against the wall." -Bob Dylan, "Poltical World" |
