Favourite Megadeth album?

I trust there are at least 3 or maybe 4 people around here who've heard them? At the risk of seeming irredeemably antediluvian in this era of Bollywood-sampling garage-rock and Llama-herding, gjallarhorn-blowing hip-hop, I'm a huge fan of 80s thrash, and Megadeth are one of my favourite bands from that era.

While guitar enthusiasts favour Rust In Peace for obvious reasons, my own favourite album happens to be So Far, So Good - So What. Despite the lukewarm Sex Pistols cover, it has some of Megadeth's strongest songs ever - the anti-censorship invective of Hook In Mouth, the very-trippy Mary Jane, 502, and possibly my favourite Megadeth song ever - In My Darkest Hour.

So which of their albums do you like best?

Re: Favourite Megadeth album?

I only ever had the one, "So far, so good...so what?" and it was pretty excellent - the speed was great - up-tempo works like 502 and Hook in Mouth are favourites.

Was tempted to buy some of their later work, but the tempo seemed to have fallen, which killed something of the appeal.

Re: Favourite Megadeth album?

Ahhh what an evil question.
I honestly could barely wedge a toothpick between Peace Sells and so far so good so what. Rust in peace is 'technically' their best - like you said, for guitarists etc, but musically...

I had to go with Peace sells, but it only won by a gnat's bollock.
This was them at their most anti-establishment, punk-influenced, pissed-at-Metallica phase ever. I know 'Killing is my business' was freshest after the metallica feud, but in this one they actually sound angry, develop their own sound and not just copycat-but-faster. In Killing is, they should have been called Megatallica.

I love SFSGSW, but I think the only songs on there that really tug me in that direction are Darkest Hour and Mary Jane.
On Peace Sells, they have The Conjuring (which could take it all on its own - what an amazing piece) and yet they continue with stuff like Peace Sells, Devil's Island, and one of my favourites ever, Good Mournng, Black Friday. (I also love their version of I ain't superstituous.
Actually, the more I think about it, the more Peace Sells wins hands down for me.

I agree though, 80s thrash is something that everybody should experience.
After Countdown to extinction, I never enjoyed their stuff at all.

Re: Favourite Megadeth album?

I voted for Countdown to Extinction. I attach it too greatly with my early high school years, so it will always be my personal favorite. To be honest, I didn't think Youthanasia was all that bad either, but I was really let down by the love song approach of Cryptic Writing. The free trading card that came with the cd didn't help.

Good question. I have seen a rebirth in interest for Megadeth and other speed metal bands lately.

*L* Was there more than one version of the free card? The one I got with the cd was of Vic Rattlehead holding up a scroll.

Did anyone actually pick up the Chaotic Megadeth comic book?

Peace Sells. Ah, memories! One of the first heavy metal sounds I heard that wasnt fake or glam or radio.
