Anyway, its been nearly a year since I bought any music, but I think I'm off to the music store sometime today to see if I can dig up anything by Gram Parsons/the Flying Burrito Brothers. I just read Parsons's biography (see the February "what we're reading" thread over in Books and Literature) and now I'm mad to discover his music. I already rented "Gimme Shelter" (Stones documentary) on which the Burritos had one song, but I want more. I've already been haunting the 'net looking for lyrics. Some of the stuff he wrote is really haunting.

Re: Your first and last album
Oh, goodness. After not buying any music at all for almost a year, I've gone a little crazy with it this week. Since Saturday I've purchased:
1) GP and Grievous Angel - Gram Parsons (a compilation CD that contains both albums). As far as I can tell, this is also the first recorded work by Emmylou Harris, who sings harmony on both albums. 2) Greatest Hits - The Flying Burrito Brothers 3) The Best of the Band - The Band 4) 1 - The Beatles (all their number one singles) 5) Transcendental Blues - Steve Earle 6) Greatest Hits - The Mamas and The Papas So, all right, most of this is old stuff, but mostly stuff I either never had before or (in the case of the The Band) that I had but got lost in my latest move. The highlight so far is the Burritos' version of The Stones Wild Horses, which they actually recorded before the Stones recorded it. It is my favorite Stones song, but this version just blows it out of the water, it is so good.
