Music and personality
I was wondering is there a deeper reason we like the music that we like? I have been studing the links between music, personality and attitudes of people who like different types of music and from what I have gatherd there are patterns regaurdless of peoples age and sex. The similaritys go deeper than that. For example most people believe because I like metal/rock music I am unhappy deep down. I do not think I am but when I first got into this type of music I was deeply depressed and although now I am well and still like this music along with many others. There are also other charicteristics between people who like one genre of music, for example people who like country music often like another type this being religious mainly, more often than not they dislike 'alternitive' music strongly. This I am not stating as fact it is just a strong similarity that has occured in the people who have taken part in the study. I am going including a link to a site that I have found on music and personality there you can find out what your music tastes say about you! ![]() www.outofservice.com/music-personality-test/ |

Re: Music and personality
I'd have to think that music and personality is dictated by where a person is. By that location, where they are in regards to their socioecomonic status, and there exposure to the world growing up. The lonelies person at the bottom most likely will not listen to Beethoven or Bach.

![]() There also might be some link with Fantasy Literature as well. A lot of bands she likes are heavily influenced by Fantasy and she likes the genre a lot. |

51% 81% 19% 4%
Well... that hit the spot pretty close. I got the same thing from people for listening to metal, that they think I am depressed and sad. I have been at times, but not when I started listening to metal. I have a pretty good idea my I like metal anyways. I enjoy the rage. Since I'm a fairly quite person, I have no outlet for my anger and metal does it for me. So I say the heavier, faster, the better ![]() |

94%, 87%, 41%, 56%...interesting. In my case, I think it mostly got me right, but not completely.

Re: Music and personality
I forgot to post my results!!!
20% Enjoys reflective and complex music. 92% Enjoys edgy and agressive music. 6% Fun and simple music. 1% Energetic and upbeat music. Hmmm most probably true about me, I dont like 'upbeat' modern music. Mainly because I see no passion and talent in most mainsteam bands. I also think very little of dance and rap music if im being honest. |

Re: Music and personality
Hmm - 65, 64, 9, 7.
I do quite like metal, but it's not cathartic for me - I just find it gets the blood pumping. Not only that, but some of it I just find has a great groove - bands like the Deftones. And then some of it's just fun, like NOFX and so on. When I'm in a bad mood, I actually prefer to listen to something calming like some jazz or classical to chill me out. Odd. Wait a minute - scoring high on "reflective and complex" music makes me liberal, but scoring low on "energetic and upbeat" makes me conservative? Hmm.. |
