Re: The 1000 best songs ever.

When it comes to singing I always go for voice first, all other considerations come afterwards. Its what makes the difference for me in both male and female singers.

Up to a point of course,...don't have any pro-Hitler/Pol Pot/Bush/Blair fav's....

Rosemary I cannot argue with that!
The AC/DC songs you chose are way kewel, Hells Bells... a classic!
What would modern rock/metal be like without thier contribution?

Hells Bells is one of my favs but Back in Black and For those about to Rock are way up there as well.

Along with Cold Chisel, two of the best bands ever to hail from Australia.... after Powderfinger of course

There are a lot of other rock & metal bands that helped, kye.
Way way back in the dim dark past there was an Aussie singer called Johnny O'Keefe. He was known as the Wild Child Of Rock here. His best (IMO) track was Shout, into which he put heart and soul!
Another brilliant Aussie band was The Angels with lead singer 'Doc' Neeson. Their best album was 'Howling' another highlight in the development of rock and metal.
AC/DC's albums Blow Up Your Video and Who made who, were two that also helped them to fame and notorietry!
For me Cold Chisel comes first every time when it comes to Aussie rock/metal!

Quokka, I'm afraid Powderfinger, for me anyway, is not in their league! They are OK but just don't have that powerful headbanging, fist in the air kind of music.

Re: The 1000 best songs ever.

I got my love of rock music (which eventually evolved to metal) from my mother. She was a right rocker!
Into AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Meat Loaf, Led Zepplin... the list goes on....

I agree that Powderfinger aren't strictly headbanging, then again alot of Chisel isnt either, more the crowd of thousands singing along to the lyrics.

I always liked Hunters and Collectors as well, another really really good live band.

Still would love to see a survey done for Khe Sanh, I swear more Australians could sing the lyrics to that than the second verse of Advance Australia Fair.

Queen was legendary! I loved all the tracks they did on the Highlander movies! And series too!
-Want to live forever!
-The opening theme to Highlander series, Born to be kings/Princes of the Universe or something!
-Another Great one is/was Running with Devil- Van Halen! Heard it on Little Nicky starring Adam Sandler and I loved it!

Well I left my heart to the sappers 'round Khe Sanh
And I sold my soul with my cigarettes to the black market man....

Should I continue, Quokka? I hope you're standing....

I'm with Quokka on Powderfinger. Certainly the form Aussie rock band of the nineties. Doesn't hurt that they're good Brissie boys, either....

Favourite Chisel track: When The War Is Over - definitely not a headbanger.

Hmm, yes I do agree with you there Quokka, not too much headbanging with Chisel, oh but they were so good! They sure cut some brilliant tracks!

Culhwch, you are correct about 'When The War Is Over', certainly not what one could categorise as heavy metal! Brings tears to my eyes instead!
AC/DC for me is the ultimate Aussie Heavy Rock.

'Khe Sanh' would get more votes than 'The Land Down Under' and far more than 'Jolly Swagman" Oh yuk, how could you make THAT a national anthem?
