Re: one hit wonders

Favourite is probably Breakfast at Tiffany's by Deep Blue Something.

One that I wish had been a one-hit wonder... Freedom '96 by Robbie "The Ego" Williams.

Think perhaps you just heard wrong - the only thing that stopped the Jimi Hendrix Experience's first album Are You Experienced? from going to number one was the Beatles and Sergeant Pepper. He certainly wasn't on the stage at Woodstock by virtue of being a no-hit wonder.

Well, as one who was actually around when Hendrix was still alive, it seemed like he was fairly famous by the time he died. If not before Woodstock, then certainly that performance woke a bunch of people up to him.

And when I met him, "Hey Joe" had been well up the charts (possibly not number one, but top ten) and he hadn't even made "Experinced" yet.

Re: one hit wonders

God, I have loads of One Hit Wonders that I love...

Being reminded of Doop was a tad strange.... and I wanna be a Hippy - that song used to make me laugh so much! The video was hilarious (I wasn't always in a sober state when watching that though)!

Right my one hit wonders that I love...

Groove is in the Heart - Deee Lite
Vienna - Ultravox
Mary's Prayer - Danny Wilson
Stay - Lisa Loeb
Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) - Baz Luhrmann
It's Raining Men - The Weather Girls
Mickey - Toni Basil (I know I know, don't flame me, I just can't help it)
Come on Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners (although this is technically a One Hit Wonder, I also love the song 'Geno' by the same band)
Your Woman - Whitetown
Night Train - Kadoc
Killer - Adamski
Nothing Compares 2 U - Sinead O Connor
Inside - Stiltskin

Hmmm, they're the only ones I like that I can think of right now but here are some real stinkers...

I Wanna S*x You Up - Color Me Badd
Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini - Bombalurina
Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice
Please Don't Go - KWS
Would I Lie To You - Charles & Eddie
No Limit - 2Unlimited
All That She Wants - Ace of Base
Mr Blobby - Mr Blobby
Eh Oh - Teletubbies
I Think We're Alone Now - Tiffany
Time Warp - Damien
Star Trekkin - The Firm

... to name but a few!

xx

Re: one hit wonders

I'm sorry ada but 2 unlimited can't really be called one hit wonders they only had 1 number 1 but also had 7 other top 10 hits although I didn't like them myself.

Ace of base had 4 other 10 ten hits.

Tiffanys I think we're alone now and the firms star trekkin I loved

Ultravox had more than a dozen hits

Dexys midnight runners had 2 number 1s plus another 2 top 10 hits

See, now I'm pleased you've said that because I happen to agree with you, but the songs listed are always - for some reason beyond my comprehension - classed as One Hit Wonders so there you go! They're featured in One Hit Wonder countdowns on VH1, MTV, Websites and all sorts, not my doing of course...

As for I Think We're Alone Now and Star Trekkin', I absolutely adored them when they were released (I even knew all of Tiffany's classy head/hand moves) but I was very young and as I've grown older I find it difficult to listen to them without wanting to smash the radio or go back to being 7/8/9-ish years old so I can enjoy them again!

But of course, as with anything, differences in people and their tastes are what makes life interesting, especially where music's concerned and besides, I don't think anyone could get much worse than loving Mickey by Toni Basil!!!

xx
