Not grammatically perfect, but yes, a great song.

Re: The best lyrics EVER

Actually, I'd like to change my vote. I was just listening to The Final Cut:

a place to stay
enough to eat
somewhere old heroes shuffle safely down the street
where you can speak out loud
about your doubts and fears
and what's more no-one ever disappears
you never hear their standard issues kicking in your door
you can relax on both sides of the tracks
and maniacs don't blow holes in bandsmen by remote control
and everyone has recourse to the law
and no-one kills the children anymore
and no-one kills the children anymore

Re: The best lyrics EVER

The tiny midnight caravan
Made its way across the black hills
As I watched from a distance
The slow-going glow
Their wandering you know
Made me pine
For the lamplight
Where you lie

If I took you darling
To the caverns of my heart
Would you light the lamp dear?
Would you light the lamp dear?
And see fish without eyes
Bats with their heads
Hanging down towards the ground
Would you still come around
Come around?

I believe in you
In your honesty and your eyes
Even when I’m sloshing
In the muck of my demise
A large part of me
Is always and forever tied
To the lamplight
Of your eyes, of your eyes

Re: The best lyrics EVER

maybe _twist_ by koRn, but I can't find a decent lyrics text on the net

oh "twist" is not all he says, I advice you to listen to it ,and it only lasts about 50 seconds, so don't worry

I can't pick the best lyrics EVER...I believe too many have merit.
But I can pick my favorite LINE ever:

What a long, strange trip it's been. -Truck'n by The Greatful Dead

Re: The best lyrics EVER

i can think of dozens of songs with great lyrics but as im feeling a little dark at the moment try these.

On a cobweb afternoon
In a room full of emptiness
By a freeway I confess
I was lost in the pages
Of a book full of death
Reading how we'll die alone
And if we're good we'll lay to rest
Anywhere we want to go

(chorus)
In your house I long to be
Room by room patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone

On my deathbed I will pray
To the gods and the angels
Like a pagan to anyone
Who will take me to heaven
To a place I recall
I was there so long ago
The sky was bruised
The wine was bled
And there you led me on

(chorus)
In your house I long to be
Room by room patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone

And on I read
Until the day was gone
And I sat in regret
Of all the things I've done
For all that I've blessed
And all that I've wronged
In dreams until my death
I will wander on

Re: The best lyrics EVER

Come over to the window my little darling
I'd like to try to read your palm
I used to think I was some kind of gypsy boy
Before I let you take me home.

So Long, Marianne, it's time that we began
To laugh and cry and cry and laugh about it all again.

Well, you know that I love to live with you
But you make me forget so very much
I forget to pray for the angels
And then the angels forget to pray for us.

We met when we were almost young
Deep in the green lilac park
You held on to me like I was a crucifix
As we were kneeling through the dark.

Your letters they all say that you're beside me now
Then why do I feel alone?
I'm standing on a ledge and your fine spider web
Is fastening my ankle to a stone.

For now I need your hidden love
I'm cold as new razor blade
You left when I told you I was curious
I never said that I was brave.

Oh, you are really such a pretty one
I see you've gone and changed your name again
And just when I climbed this whole mountain side
To wash my eyelids in the rain.

I've a soft spot for this sad little Leonard Cohen number

Achewood!

You win a prize.

A quand finira cette traverse'e
A portsmouth mon coeur sera
transperce'
je suis sure de ca
je le vois nerveux je le vois
s'agiter
je connais les mots qu'il va
prononcer
je les connais bien ceux-la'
la cote' se profile
et tout va bien mieux
puisqu'il n'a rien dit et souffle
un peu
biento^t va finir cette traverse'e
et je vais savoir si j'ai fabule'
portsmouth enfin nous voila
a quai
tout est si gris comme
j'imaginais
les rues s'eveillent repoussent
le sommeil
elles ouvrent un oeil et
tout est pareil
j'avais tort de me tracasser
tu ne m'as rien dit
rien annonce' rien enleve',
tu n'as rien detruit
s'il y en a qui cherchent
toujours le pire
et qui y reviennent et
qui veulent souffrir
ne vivent que de ca, ca n'est pas
mon cas et les roulements
du coeur qui s'affolent me
repoussent vraiment
et a portsmouth ce jour la'
apres cette peur cette traverse'e
me'fiances et soupcons m'ont
abandonne's
sous un ciel si bas dans une rue profonde
ou' tout se confond tout devient
de l'ombre
portsmouth enfin, nous voila'
a' quai
tout est si gris comme
j'imaginais
et les paupie'res trainent des
wagons
de sommeil entier, de plus en
plus longs
j'avais tort de me tracasser
il ne m'a rien dit
aucune fin n'e'tait annonce'e et
rien n'est ainsi

Re: Dark Waltz

Anything by Pulp. Jarvis Cocker is the British pop poet laureate and he says more about modern life in the UK than a whole year's subscription to the Guardian ever could.
